Before I was born, my grandfather and uncle were volunteer firefighters with the township department. They had already left the fire service for as far back as I recall. However, there was a speaker upstairs outside of the bedrooms at my grandparents' house and I remember being told it was for when they got fire calls. Can anyone tell me if they remember something like this or how it would have worked?

All knowing, CBz? Maybe not, but if I don't know something, I make it up. :o

Actually EJ, I can't say what it was for sure. Perhaps it was a speaker for a Plectron, or it was a bell for a fire phone.  Perhaps there is a fire department historian where your grandparents lived who might be able to tell you.

I had the phone line run from the station to my house but never got the bell attached to it. The system came off the stations alert system which the station house siren operated off of. Then was issued a Plectron radio until it was taken back to the station when the pagers were issued.
