Washington, D.C. Firefighter Seriously Burned In House Fire Rescue

WASHINGTON (WUSA) - One child has died, a fire fighter is in serious condition and a dozen people have been displaced after a house fire in Southeast DC.

DCFD was called to 3113 Buena Vista Terrace SE for the report of a house fire at approximately 6:25 p.m. Friday, says DC Fire Assistant Chief Ken Crosswhite.
Firefighters arrived to find fire coming from a two-story duplex, says Crosswhite. They rescued a child approximately 4 or 5 years old. He was taken to an area hospital in serious condition suffering from burns. 9NEWS NOW was then told he was in critical condition and shortly after, DC Police told us the child had died.
One firefighter was burned while making the rescue. His condition is listed as serious.
Two other adults and two other children were also taken to the hospital.
A dozen people have been displaced.
A cause of the fire is under investigation.
No damage estimate is available.

Get well soon brother. Great job to my 3rd battalion guys though. Even though one fireman was burned, they made multiple rescues. Some people on here are so cautious that they won't risk anything. This guy needs skin grafts for his hands, but people are alive because of it.

Our best wishes to our injured brother. He made a decision I'm sure many of us would have made. His sacrifice and those of his co-workers paid big dividends. Hope he gets well soon.

Sounds like a great job by all. Shame about the boy, no doubt the DCFD boys busted ass to make all the grabs. That's what it's about. Best wishes to the injured bro, we can all learn a lot from the guys thatseedo the most.
