truck color, absoloutley
left coat pocket-channellock 6in1 rescue tool
right coat pocket-leatherman multitool, folding spanner wrench, trauma sheers
upper right chest pocket-small steamlight/flashlight
inside coat left pocket-spare nomex hood
left pants pocket-24ft of 3/4in rescue rope
right pants pocket-extrication gloves, rope rescue gloves, medical gloves

Everything I carry I use atleast once a cycle, except for the spare hood. I made the mistake of forgetting my hood in the dryer at the station from a previous shift. That morning we made a 3 alarm fire and I had to bum a hood off a driver/operator and got chewed out on the ride back to the station. From then I always bring a spare.
side cutters, short screw driver,a leatherman, extracation gloves several pairs of nitrals gloves an extra can of timberwolf lol
Your sister's phone number.
The usual...extra leather gloves, 15' rope/carabiner thingy, a multitool/extra tips, wedges, extra LED handlight, and an old Babe Ruth candybar. I have no idea how old it is. But I know for sure it's sustained me many times out on those "waiting for the keyholder" runs in the middle of the night. Gnosh a bite or 2 and wrap it up, back in the pocket.
Mmmmm, good.....
1. both have their benefits. a large area with a high call volume may require a paid dept. in order to handle the calls, in a small area with a low call volume, a paid dept. may not be feasable, thus requireing only a vollie dept.

2. who cares what color it is as long as we get there safely and accoplish our tasks.

3. what about women in the fire service? ive seen women that can handle the job better than some men.

4. 1 light so that people recognize that you are driving to a true emergency.
1.) Either way it's all good man.
2.) Should be red, just an opinion but it ain't a "firetruck" if it ain't ripe.
3.) If women want in the fire service which apparently they do or they wouldn't be there, I'm the last one to throw up a thought against it.
4.) None, none at all. That's what the big red truck is for.
Unfortunately Kent this is not necessarily the right place to ask questions unless you can ignor the bs. To many people can't answer a simple question or leave one alone for that matter.

The short answer is carry what YOU think YOU will need. For years I carried waaaay to much. I had to use a spare pair of gear while my was being cleaned and found that I liked being free from all the weight. Plus I didn't get caught as much on my bellows pockets because they were usually full.

Keep it simple:
Short piece of rope or webbing (to tie something like a door or tool)
Strong/sharp cutting tool (to get out of possible entanglements, cut seatbelts, etc) I use a pair of trauma shears that I keep on my helmet,
Nomex hood, I keep mine in my helmet (have to take my helmet off to put the mask on, this way I dont forget the hood)
Med gloves are a good thing to have (keep mine in a pouch on my suspenders)
Leather or rescue gloves (for rescue when you need dexterity and for wrapping up)
Maybe a multi too like a gerber.

That's kind of the basics. Apparatus carry most of the things you will need like rope, window punches or spanner wrenches . If not someone else carrying to much will probably have what you need. Proper training will get you into the mindset of never leaving the rig without grabbing a tool and better training will ensure that your crew will have a variety of tools. Better to be light and trained well than to be weighed down and clueless. Never be afraid to ask some of your seasoned brothers what they carry. These guys did it before we had all of those fancy dodads.

That's a good answer at this time when 60 guys in Camden are getting laid off
A few door chocks, sprinkler wedges, wire cutters, "emergency cigs" (Being new in this house makes me the goto guy) and wood matches, safety glasses and thats about it.
better to have it and not use it than need it and not have it.. i personally carry
wedges and a window puch on my helmet
rescue and structural gloves hooked on my coat with a streamlight LED survivor light
webbing, a "rescue-q-wrench" and wirecutters
I´m junior firefighter, so I just carry NOMEX hood.
