This is a fire in Detriot MI.  My buddy had found it and posted it on facebook.  It was right around the time Captcity had posted his would you go into this forum.  So I figured Id attach it and see what other stradegies people would have used at this fire or if they would have attacked it the same way.

Was that a booster or an 1 1/2 they took up that ladder? I see how the guy on the right has no hair on the sides of his head.

I don't think I would have gone inside that window. No telling how soft the floor was in that room.
Well Detroit sees alot of fires. With that said, they are a very aggressive interior fire department. Therefore what you are seeing is something out of the norm. Thats an 1.5" line and it knocks that fire down pretty fast. I suspect they had an access situation and went up and over.

Can't say I would have fought it the same way or not, due to the circumstances not told. In my department we would have to wear our SCBA masks but other than that nothing different.
My first thought is we never - never - never go into a situation like that without being on air. These guys were carrying their masks up the ladder. Secondly, we attempt to attack a fire from the unburned end of the structure (In this case from the ground up). They may have had difficulty reaching the fire from inside. Great video, but I disagree with the appearance of what I see in this limited view. Thanks for posting it.
Interesting video... I believe just from seeing the one side of the house it's hard to decide. Butonly seeing that one side I would of had my crew hit it from the exterior with a 2 1/2". We would of stood at the street level. I don't see a reason to go on the roof for that. Then would of made our attack from the main floor if conditions had Improved.
My thought used to be always fight from the unburned side. That has changed. I believe you need to cool that fire down and knock it down fast on certain fires. Sure you might push a little more fire and embers around but that's always minor. I've seen it work multiple times and the new studys and tactics are showing that it works.

Did anyone notice the wind on this fire? I would say that would be one of my biggest concerns on my size up for this fire!!!!
well probably would have attacked it the same way and would have had a crew going in the front door also but WTF the deal with not having masks on holy that's crazy sure this wasn't an out take from Backdraft? The attack from the upstairs window would strictly be exterior til you could sound the floor or see in there.A booster would work in a single room like shown and did but I'd want a little more water for going inside. We'd have crews on all four sides and i'm sure they did to just can't see it but that was a great knockdown from what was shown!! Great post!
Oh watched it again and I see they did send a crew in the front but one thing I did not see was anybody watching the house beside it.I'll bet the siding was gettin a little droopy. And I have to ask do the guys over there not wear bella clavas cause buddy going in the window didn't put his on.
if you read the caption below the video it stated that their monitor malfunctioned.
It's not a booster hose, I believe someone pointed out it's a 1 1/2.
I'm guessing this is a bread and butter job for DFD, likewise I suspect they know what their doing.
They're probably worn out.

Or the city leaders sold them like the brass in the stations.

Or they were stolen off the trucks\stations.

Detroit is run by a bunch of corrupt politicians, probably even worse than Chicago. Millions of dollars spent on fire stations that are closed or don't exist or the work just didn't get done. 30,000+ vacant buildings, more fires per capita than New York. I've heard stories that they have to wear just regular leather work gloves because they can't get fire gloves.

Or what about the natural gas almost being shut off because the city hadn't paid the bill.

Gotta tip the helmet to them, they get screwed coming and going, but they keep doing the job.
Man and I get bummed out cuz they tell me they can't afforda second pair of gloves forwinter time! :0(
video looks deceiving on the hose it just looks small sorry to upset you jack!
I would have blitzed that fire with a deck gun or a 2 1/2 blitz line to blacken it down. Than if the conditions were right than an interior attack would have been authorized for the remaining rooms.
Yeah, 'cept the deck gun malfunctioned.

See Jack's post. And the video info.

I would have to say I would say the same thing, but it amazes me at how fast the fire darkens with that 1 1/2".
