What's with the Google ads that are popping up on the top of the pages. These are a total annoyance. Why the change?

I believe it's called, "paying to run the site". The site isn't going to run itself or pay for itself. I noticed them as well, but they don't flash or dance around, so if they help to pay for keeping the site going, then I don't see the big deal.
Folks

I'll be testing a few different ad positions over the coming weeks. There will definitely be an ad at the top, and probably a few others, but it won't be out of control or anything and as the platform expands its capabilities we'll have better ways to integrate them into the design.

But yes, as some mentioned, we have to start paying some bills :) Not all, but some.

Thanks
Why don' they at least come up right away then. They come up after a couple of seconds and throw the entire page off. You could always sell ad space too.
Download Firefox by Mozilla and then download the Adblock Plus add-on and you will get rid of most of the common ads as well as be able to tweak its settings to block more ads as well as other aspects of different websites. Some other add-ons to download and integrate into Firefox are Adblock Filterset.G Updater, Adblock Plus: Element Hiding Helper, and Fasterfox. Firefox with those few add-ons will not only block out most of the ads, but also make your surfing more secure, safer, and faster.

You can download Mozilla Firefox at: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
