CHARLESTON, S.C. - A South Carolina fire station that removed a nativity display following a complaint has put it back up after adding other holiday decorations.

The Charleston Fire Department announced Tuesday that one of its stations has modified its holiday display to comply with U.S. Supreme Court rulings. It has added a menorah, Kwanzaa Kinara, Santa Claus, elves and reindeer.

Chief Thomas Carr Jr. says the nativity scene is one part of celebrating the holiday season.

The Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation sent a letter dated Dec. 17 asking city officials to remove the display because it promoted one religion over another. It was taken down in response.

Foundation co-president Annie Laurie Gaylor says the change is a sham but appears to fall in the law.

why do people make this so hard. You live your life, I'll live mine, and we will leave the public/government property neutral.

where again would heaven be?
I'd rather you didn't. But if you insist, pray that I hit the lottery.
Ben,

How is it you only like to correct/challenge my? In my opinion, a comments such as "I pray that people like Annie and her lost followers come to know the truth before it's too late." is uncalled for in a discussion about whether or not certain displays should be allowed. Not to mention a clear attempt to threadjack the discussion. It was clearly a comment that Annie (whoever she is) is wrong in her religious beliefs, yet you don't even acknowledge that bit of intolerance. C'mon!
I didn't feel the need to dogpile when you had already pointed it out.
And...it may be intolerant, but she has the right to say it.

The important thing is that if you call someone out for a post on the topic, at least call them out for something that they actually said, and don't make up a straw man.

The same goes for throwing wars into a discussion about Christmas decorations.

You're better than that.

Most of my familiarity with Skokie is from The Blues Brothers movie if that tell you anything.

I don't knowexactly where it is, but I'm not ruling out the possibility. Your lack of belief in said place doesn't rule out the possibility that it exists, either.

To repeat myself from another post on the topic: "That's why it's called religious faith. You can't prove religion scientifically, so you have to take it on faith."

Part of tolerance includes being tolerant of other's beliefs.
You aren't exactly demonstrating a lot of tolerance on the topic right now.

Part of tolerance is allowing others to believe differently without forcing your beliefs on them.
All I can say is that groups like this FFRF will always make me want to Barf ! The very Idea that a group like this could sway the City of Charleston into bowing to thier wants is abhorant to me . I mean who in the Hell are they to act "in the name of " anyone ? They don't represent MY beliefs, I am not offended by a nativity scene ANYWHERE ! or a Menorah , or a Kinara . Was there a complaint from the local Synagog or the local NAACP ? Probably not . Christ is the reason for the season , I won't forget that as I celebrate Christmas with my family , both at home and at the Firehouse . Merry Christmas to ALL, God Bless .

OK, then we are on the same page then since that was my familiarity too. :-)
Ben, one last time and then I'm done, I mentioned "war" as in to support with money that said in ? we trust. You then moved it forward with jericho and the rest of that nonsense. So please, stop saying it happened, you said it, because I threw war into it. It's bullshit and we both know it. Let it drop and go have a merry christmas.
I think non religion groups don't believe in christmas at all but the simple fact that they don't have the slightest chance of any happiness at any season so they aren't happy with there own lives
The very Idea that a group like this could sway the City of Charleston into bowing to thier wants is abhorant to me

Is it really about "their" wants, or is it about equality? As this article points out allowing symbology of other religions satisfies the equality portion and does not promote one religion over another and as such the FFRF is S.O.L.

They don't represent MY beliefs, I am not offended by a nativity scene ANYWHERE ! or a Menorah , or a Kinara .

Do your beliefs also represent everyone elses? Just because you personally may not be offended doesn't mean someone isn't. Just because there were no "publically" made complaints in the past doesn't mean everyone was fine and dandy either.

Christ is the reason for the season

Christ is the reason that Christians celebrate the day of Christmas. How long though is the "season" considered? More than one day for the most part. As it is the HOLIDAY season incorporates many significant times in a variety of religions, of which Christ is not the reason for such celebrations. That is what tolerance is about, recognizing that there are other beliefs out there and to accept that fact, not just your own personal beliefs.
