report from eng co 82 (dennis smith) & his other one the final fire(great story)...Triangles of fire (real good story), cant remember the author's name...and (shamless plug)-My books, Brotherhood of the badge, Blood Fire and The Colored House all written but unpublished...there are other really good books written about our profession but i cant name them all right now. Any books that entertain and educate are good for us and the reading public.
20.000 alarm definatly...one of his buds Joe Galvin was a college professor of mine. he used to tell mucho stories about "Ham" real fireman stuff from the 60's i wonder what happened to the both of them. their type of firefighter will never be seen again
Thoughts on Fire was very good, and DS does an amazing job with Report from Ground Zero.

"Inside the Beverly Hills Supper Club Fire" by Ron Elliott
First in Last out.....
Fire Lover, by Joseph Wambaugh, Non Fiction...."As the tale of John Orr's life and career unfolds, the reader is given an evenhanded depiction of a highly intelligent, accomplished firefighter who rose to the rank of arson investigator. In fact, he became such an expert in his field that he taught classes, gave seminars, and the articles he submitted to professional publications were often cited by his peers as some of the most insightful research of the time. Yet he was also a man who manipulated the system, exhibiting a tendency to create situations that would provide him opportunities to be the heroic public servant. And while he was generally liked, he was always a loner whose personal life was a constant procession of failed marriages and superficial friendships."

Keep in mind, history repeats itself. I think this kind of horrid tale reminds us to keep our eyes OPEN.
Ha ha ha ha, I used to deliver his news paper in NY.
Fire on the mountain
I have read almost all of the books mentioned here and enjoyed them all. Like many mentioned the first FD read was Report from Engine Co 82. I was hooked... and have collected as many titles as I can find since. Since we have many snowy nights here in Maine they come in handy lol. Many great lessons in each. I have also met some of the authors and worked with one...all salt of the earth guys. Many lessons for us to pass on to the next generation.
