In Victoria, Australia, to be a career firefighter, you must be over 18.

To be a vol here you can be an operational firefighter from the age of 16. Between 16 and 18 (adult) you must have signed parental approval and you will always be with a mentor.
neat
yes i hav had to hav sign parental aproval
Well I can't speak alone for the rest of the United States, or even New York State for that matter. In my Department, one has to be at least 16 with parent permission. At that age they are restricted at what they can do. Once they reach 18 they are just like the rest of us.
In ohio you must be 18 before you can gain Firefighter certification. you can take the class in high school but you cannot test untill your 18th birthday
Federal Labor Laws in the US restrict persons under the age of 18 from being exposed to the hazards of active firefighting, and apply to volunteer or career departments.
yep, 18 in Indiana. 21 to drive the apparatus (at least per our town's rules). We allow juniors or cadets on at 16 w/ parental consent.
We have a Junior program for Kids 14 years of age up to 18. In Oregon you have to be 18 before your qualify to be a certified Firefighter.
to join 16 to be able to fight fire as a interior fire fighter 18 with essentials same for rescue tech you need to be 18 and have a state of pa dept. of health rescue tech cert.

In Stanly County, NC You Must be at least 16 years old, 16 and 17 are what they call junior firefighters. 18 and older you are a full firefighter. Of Course even if your 18 or older you still must have fireifighter 1 and 2 before entering any buring structure.
i had to complete a 7 day basic training course
running out hoses and doing waterways equiptment for 3 days ,1 day in 1st aid and 3 days b.a breathing aparutus
A few years ago, when the State Of New York stated one could join a fire dept at 17, we lowered our age from 18 to 17 also. If 17 and or still in High School, parents signature is required on application and all their activities are limited to 10:PM on school nights until graduation. We have picked up some excellent kids who show great promise. Ours is a volunteer dept.
