I have just recently started a workout called P90X (otherwise known to me as simply the "X") and it is kicking my butt...it is one of the hardest routines I have ever done and halfway through each routine my body wants me to stop...but I push through them...anyone else doing this type of "muscle confusion" routine...imagine those CrossFit workouts minus the heavy weight movements and about twice as long...eating right (using their meal plan) hasn't been too difficult, but pizza sure sounds good about now...lol...
It requires a strict following of 6 days a week and the 7th day off...you follow the routine for a total of 90 days...three phases (one phase for each month)...it's all about 'muscle confusion' and the workouts vary to make that happen...weeks 1 - 3 are the same, then week 4 changes the workouts...week 5 - 7 are the same, then week 8 changes...etc...you have to be strict with your eating, which is killn' me, but I am staying faithful and have already lost 8 lbs in about a week or so...sounds complicated, but you just put the dvd in your laptop or DVD player and presto...Im sore all the time and loving it...my buddy in the Coast Guard gave the 'kit' to me because he couldn't keep up with the workouts...and he's an instructor and in pretty good shape...
Yes...they do have an infomercial on it, but I've never seen it...I got it from a buddy of mine who is an instructor with the US Coast Guard...he couldn't keep up with it, so it was collecting dust at his house...it is pretty intense...I have gotten a few of the guys (and gals) at the station in on it, and at least one has to stop part way through...one guy stopped during the 'shoulder/arm' workout the other day to throw up...you, if I may say so, look pretty fit already...the website is www.P90X.com ...it costs about $100 USD and a little more if you need their chin-up bar...it rotates the workouts and includes stuff like yoga, kempo, and a killer ab workout (I can't do all of the ab excercises yet)...each workout (one a day) is just under 1 hour...you have to watch the dvd's and it counts down on the screen the whole time...I use my laptop to watch them at home and at work...
One of the guys at my station uses that workout. He was in great shape before he started and it still whipped his butt.
I'm not advanced enough to do that yet, but I've been doing body weight exercises and walking (can't run- terrible knees). I've dropped 25 pounds since the end of August and really started developing muscular definition and core strength. I do variations of crunches, push-ups, lunges, and squats. I just picked up a book on Krav Maga, which uses several martial arts styles and stretching techniques to increase flexibility, cardiorespiratory endurance, and strength.
Truckie...good to see you in here talking about the "X"! The X is by far the best workout program that I have ever encountered for working out at home, station or even the gym. Keith is right when he says it is tough. I just finished my 1st round of P90X and it was great...it was very challenging and I was in the Marine Corps and played college sports as well. I have recently started an addition to P90X that is called P90X+ ...this is another group of great workout DVD's to add to the existing "X" workouts. Keith is also correct in relating this workout to Crossfit. I have worked out in crossfit gyms and have had my rear end whipped, but at least you can do these in the comfort of your home. P90X has a diet guide to follow and if you do at least follow the portion approach of the program and show up for the workouts...you will have good results. If you want some more info or my point of view of the program or if you would like to know more about the program then visit my website to get some more info.
But of course...you continue on with your new found journey. You have just learned how to make diet and fitness the main staple in your goals towards being healthy. So now either keep doing P90X or even do P90X+...the new videos. I also do kettlebell workouts and other cardio workouts. You just have to keep changing it up, so that you don't hit a lull in your workouts.
I just started ROUND 2...I'm on day 2 of it...still kicking my butt...kicked it up a notch and added a HIIT workout with the stationary bike and some jump rope...once you finished the first round of the X...take a little break for a few days to give your body a bit of a rest if you want, then start ALL OVER AGAIN...stay safe...
Hey Keith
I Started the X a week ago. Im enjoying it with exception of the yoga stuff. Its pretty intense if you work hard. Its like anything else, you only get out of it what you put into it.
Congrats on purchasing the best system around for getting you into the best shape of your life...you are absolutley right about only getting out of it what you put into it. You are just getting started and have a while to go, but keep your head up and be ready to Bring It each and every time you workout.
