Our Fire Department received a grant for two brush trucks. The plan calls for us to equip 9 foot flatbeds with a 300 gallon slid on unit and storage boxes on each side, to house back packs etc.
I'm looking for a resonable source for custom boxes. Input would be appreciated.
You can just buy treadplate truck boxes at your local car parts dealer, home improvement store, or even the automotive section at Wal Mart. They come in a variety of sizes, and are typically much less expensive than custom-made boxes.
Or...call Seagrave and ask what they do for the top-mount equipment boxes they install on the FDNY rescue and squad apparatus.
This is the type VI engine that I'm running at this time. The boxes are by RKI http://www.rki-us.com/products.aspx?catid=81 F-450 with a 300 gal. tank. Getting 2 new engines this spring. F-550 extended cabs with a 500 gallon tank. Might get 1 of these, not sure since I finally go back to work on Monday.
when we bought our brush unit.we custom built the boxes our selves it didnt cost bout maybe bout a hundred to two hundred bucks each box you make.but like Asst.29 said above reading might have somethin yer lookin for
RK builds a good aluminum box, and if you have a Tractor Supply nearby, they have just about the best deals on truck boxes.......and the undermount boxes seem to be the strongest. But mount them on top on a couple of lengths of square tubing to keep the box off the bed.
look at Daws better built , they have a variety of unique sizes, often stuff you can't find in auto and hardware stores. They are sold through Lowes as well but will sell direct to governments
