Storm Spotter Classes
I am going to attend my very first storm spotter class tommorow night. Does anyone out there who has been through this have any words of wisdom? What should I take with me? All I was told was where to be and when to be there. Thanks TCSS and Buckle up.

Just pay attention. I took it when I was 16. You see some cool pics and learn alot of what to look out for.

I have taken several of these classes, including an advanced class which was very dry, no pun intended. Now I have also been on many spotting adventures and here is my advice; buy a $50 car, preferably one that weighs a lot, drive to where you are told and give your report of what is hitting you at that moment, most of the time its dark/night and you can’t see shit. We use to spot in the rigs, hummm lets take a $300,000 truck and let the weather beat it up, so we starting taking our own vehicles, DUH.

We also use POV's so gonna take the old beater if get called out. It runs great but looks like heck. Maybe some storm damage will give it some character. LOL Didnt know if I needed pen, paper, no doze LOL Thanks to all who have responded.

It just depends on who is teaching it. Some instructors you may need a couple of monster drinks and a five-hour energy! lol! But just treat it like any other class. Take a notebook and pen. There are some pretty neat pictures. Have fun and keep your eyes to the sky!

You learn what to look for and what to report and then take cover. My department hosts a yearly class for the community and I've had most of my people take the class.
Above all, and they will stress it as well, it is a storm spotters not a storm chasers class. Some people have been seriously injured after taking their first class and then trying to run storms down. I spent 10 years chasing storms until I got tired of repairing or replacing vehicles. Up where you are at, you probably wouldn't need to go far this time of year to see them anyway.

Yeah had some good ones last night. And no worries about chasing them. I am way too old and smart LMAO for that crap. Not even sure if I will get called on to spot. However any training beats no training. TCSS and anytime you wanna go chasing call me I will let you know where to go. Just dont ask me to ride along LOL
