POMFRET, Conn. (AP) -- A Connecticut man was so engrossed with the tunes on his iPod that he didn't realize his house was on fire - until his alarm company called.

Pomfret Assistant Fire Chief Edward Bates says Andrew Riley told him he was listening to music Thursday afternoon when the blaze broke out on the upper floor of his 2 1/2-story house.

Bates says Riley didn't smell smoke or hear the smoke alarm going off.

After receiving the call, Riley dashed upstairs and shut a door to the burning room.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and quickly put out the blaze. The damage was limited to the exercise room and an adjoining office.

A fire marshal blamed the fire on an electrical malfunction in the exercise room.

Well i guess his i-pod was up loud because why did he not here the fire alarm in the house and i know some of them are loud and the funny part is he heard the phone but not the fire alarm
Strange that he heard his phone go off and not his fire alarm; although, it could have been his cellphone and he saw it light up... On another note, very smart decision to shut the door to help keep the fire spreading too quickly. Most people would have ran out of the house ASAP. It could have been much worse than what it was.
TCSS and have a good weekend.

We had a call like this a few weeks ago. The guy was watching TV, casually looked out his front window, and saw the flames coming from the front of his house. Lucky for him, his neighbour had already called it in.
I can relate.
I just got a new pair of ear buds for my MP3 player. When I have them in, I can see my wife moving her lips, but I can't hear a word she's saying.
Best 20 bucks I ever spent.
TCSS.

The iphone is an ipod also...while listening to music, if the phone rings, the music fades out so you can talk. Then, when you hang up, the music fades back. Pretty cool phone.
that was so funny
now that's just funny.
