Okay well I looked around a bit and didnt find this topic yet, suprised me but maybe I missed it. What is everyones favorite turnout gear colors here? Personally I myself prefer tan for the higher visablity then black. For some reason my companys torn between black and tan most of the older guys prefer the black and most of the younger guys like myself perfer tan what does everyone else think and why?

OK, that's Hi-Vis Black, not just black. Now a note from the other side...We like red. Yes, red gear. It doesn't hide dirt or stains it suggests that you wash it to maintain safety.
Peter,

Looks like your FD will stand out at a mutual aid scene. Very unusual and I like the color. How's the visibility in all conditions? TCSS
Years ago we had black gear, then when it was replaced we bought tan gear. Now we've got black gear again. I've gotta say I like the look of the black gear better. I have not noticed any difference in operating on hot days between the black or tan gear. I think they're both equally hot in the summer!
We wear tan here, and in our little mini region there isnt any real variation other than the 500 combinations of possible helmet colors.
Nah Peter actually one of the companies in my county has red gear, it doesnt seem like that bad of an idea but another company has blue gear to get a little big stranger. I still gotta say though I think Im giong to stick with my tans but red does seem like a good visable alternate opition.

Everything is dark in the conditions we work in, it's all about the reflective stripes, but during the day and under normal conditions it's easy to find.
ours is black
I am on two departments and they both use tan, I like it but I have never had black. I have heard that some people like black becouse it does not show soot like the tan or yellow. On a lighter note I use to be with a department that had red gear and the funny thing was that after a few washes it turned pink. We caught alot of crap and I see them from time to time and they still have the pink gear. lol
I can relate to that. Some of our older black gear has faded to gray. I have no doubt that red gear fades to pink! LOL
My department uses Black for the Captains and tan for everyone else. This way it is easy to pick out the person in charge.
When I first gor in we had black then we went to yellow now we use tan.
We wear reflective vests at night.
I like the traditional look of black but the tan shows your "work" better. I got a new set this year that is tan with green and silver striping and black dragon hide knee pads. It's that Globe G-Extreme and it is awsome!!!
