Some of you have heard this before...

In the door pocket of my truck I carry a ANSI level 2 Vest, Safety glasses, Heavy Duty Exam Gloves, a $10 rescue knife (w/ seatbelt cutter) and a flashlight...Just in Case I need to act as a Good Smaritan.

I Love the new Requirement and think it is very long overdue.

Sorry Jenna...thats and "excuse" and in this line excuses are like assholes....we have them and they all stink.....LOL...I remember a few years ago when the rule ref to wearing gloves came down....I heard it all from "I can't assess the pt wearing them" to "I can't put an IV in because I can't feel the vein with them on".....Remember the 1st rule for EMS.....scene safety.....if we already have 1 victim do we need another...?? The responder...?? Lets do our job in the best and the safest way that we can......Stay safe out there and remember to keep the faith.....Paul
Jenna,

Just get in the habit of putting it on everytime you respond to any highway, or roadway accident and before you know it you won't even notice it while you are evaluating a PT.

GM
That's just liike the idiots who don't wear seatbelts because, "they wrinkle my clothes". If you wear the vest properly, it won't "drag" in your pt's face!
We have reflective strips on our arms and legs. I don't know why you wouldn't want it. More visibility = more better... no?
I love the new law and I say more the marrier for sure, safety first when out by the roads and so on.
Are you all insane? you think a vest is going to stop anyone from hitting you? if they dont see the multi ton fire truck sitting there blocking lanes with the lights flashing what makes you think they are going to see you in your silly little vest? Paul I looked at close firefighterclose calls, only one working incident i could see, and by them parking the truck the way they did was what helped them...not the vest. More of you call and vollies kill and get killed each year responding from home. I say to cut this down we do away with red lights on POV's.That will cut our LODD responding to alarms almost down to zero. Yes...i think that will work...
Yes they do, and with properly positioned fire companies you will be far safer then wearing that vest.
#1...what you say does NOT agree with what both the New York State Police nor what traffic experts state...but then again you "learnt" it better.....I don't have to be hit in the head with a brick to "learnt" that "Hey, that hurts" Lets put it simple....I may not agree with it but it is the guideline...and from rumor has it soon to be an OSHA Law....I will therefore comply with it..We had the pleasure (NOT) to watch a scene where everything was done ...ie blocking...lights.....but still 3 people were hurt and 1 killed....could a vest have made a difference...??? Probably not, but maybe....just maybe.......enough said....its the rule...as a master jumpmaster once told me...."Son you ain't gotta like it....you just gotta do it.." Stay safe........Paul
That will never happen....these are the same rocket scientists that argue about wearing full PPE into a structure fire....complain that they Can't feel the heat.....Why would any sane person want to...?? I give up on them...just keep them away from my fire scene....I wouldn't let them near it let alone go inside with ANY of my people....Stay safe Brother....keep the faith....Paul
Paul, if you really think that a vest is going to help you, by all means wear it, but dont think for a second that a vest is better protection for you then blocking the scene with your fire company, doing so shows how far out of reality some of you are!!
Paul, thats right ,I dont wear a hood, then again I have been in far more fires then your small Vollie dept and have one thing that you dont....EXPERIENCE!! What I say does not come from a book, it comes from real life EXPERIENCE! Not one thing you have posted on any forums that I have read shows that you have any real fire experience to back your opinion. Your copany probably runs 500 calls a year 10 building fires, 20 MVA's and you think your an expert? get off your high horse!!
