Backdraft has always been my favorite movie. Come on, who can forget when that movie first came out, All the "wackers" coming to movie theatre with there pagers one, knowing that they are out of their district, dragged the love ones to see it and they didn't want to. And who can not forget the famous line of the movie, "You go, We go!"

Ladder 49 was the better of the two, though still very "Hollywood." I don't know any incident commander that would purposefully allow a firefighter to die in a burning building based on their statements. Overall though, it was a much more realistic film than Backdraft; the whole "you go, we go" thing was all just so much macho chest thumping and hot air...

Backdraft due to all the special effects- if you don't believe me, get the special edition on dvd it shows all the special effects and how they used REAL fire, not animated fire like in Ladder 49 and Chuck and Larry. Backdraft all the way... it is the reason i've always wanted to be a Chicago firemen.

LADDER 49 IS IN THE LEAD WITH 22 VOTES WITH BACKDRAFT 14.
COME ON LADDER 49 WAS A GOOD MOVIE, BUT WHO CAN BEAT OUT "RONALD". MR. SUTHERLAND IS A GREAT ACTOR, MY OPINION, THEY SHOULD COME OUT WITH A BACKDRAFT 2, WHERE RONALD IS FREE!

I like BackDraft the best. There was always something going on. With Ladder 49, it was mainly about the fireman that was trapped in the warehouse, now dont get me wrong, I thought is was pretty good movie, but I really backdraft the most.

Ladder 49 more realistic than backdraft IE I would love to go in an empty wharehouse fully involved still be able to see my hands let alone a fellow firefighter 30 feet away also run around for 30 minutes without a pack and mask. But I liked backdraft just liked ladder 49 better

LADDER 49 was the best..i like them both but ladder 49...is the "updated" movie..backdraft was a AWESOME movie as well....they both are great...and i have them both on dvd.

I love Ladder 49. I like Backdraft, but the and fire scenes are just too hokie. I don't really like that in Backdraft they had to make a Firefighter an Arsonist.
Ladder 49 told a great story without having to make a FF one of the Bad guys.

Greenman, that is one of the issues we do face today. Firefighters starting fires, just to get that rush, or hurry up back to the fire station to ride the truck, or they
are just simply a pyro and they help. They want attention.
You don't hear to much about now, like before, but it's out there.
