Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I like helping people. Mostly my involvement has been through my husband. He is the photographer and webmaster for our fire dept. We have become part of a new family and love every one of our brothers and sisters. I am archiving the pictures from the beginning of the dept as a volunteer dept in the early 70's to present on cd at the present time. I'm also a board member for the Fire Dept. Auxiliary.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
I love helping people and I love documenting the lives of those that give so much to help so many.

Merry Christmas Everyone

Posted on December 23, 2010 at 1:58am 0 Comments

I have not been around for most of this year so haven't been very active on here. Last year my Mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I got to fly down in October and spend a couple of weeks with my Mom and Dad, and with my brother and 2 of my sisters that also flew in to spend some time with our parents. I had just broke my ankle the week before I flew down so was on crutches and couldn't put any weight on my leg. So, I told my Mom I would come back to help when I got the cast… Continue

Shaving for a cure for cancer

Posted on March 17, 2008 at 8:44pm 0 Comments

Our fire dept took part in St. Baldrick's again this year and I chose to shave my head to stand in solidarity with those that lose their hair due to cancer. I didn't actually get out to raise donations because I was sick but still shaved my head. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, you can donate here: http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/shavee_info.html?ParticipantKey=2008-33618 Thanks ahead of time. We have all been affected by cancer in one way or another.

Cameron C. Carter

Even though we are continuing the search for firefighter/paramedic Cameron Carter, there will be a "Celebration of his Life" on Saturday.

Kenai resident Cameron C. Carter was reported missing Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, when the LifeGuard helicopter he was working on as the flight paramedic was reported missing in Prince William Sound near Whittier. Following an seven-day search, no survivors were found and it is presumed he made the ultimate sacrifice. He was 24.

Praying for our lost brother Cameron

Posted on December 11, 2007 at 2:19pm 3 Comments

8 days ago our Lifeguard helicopter went down. Onboard was one patient, the pilot, one nurse and one firefighter/paramedic (Cameron). The body of the nurse and the sliding door from the helicopter were found 3 days ago. Still missing, the pilot, the patient and Cameron. The search and rescue was called off yesterday due to continued bad weather and the fact that it has been 8 days since the incident. It is believed that the helicopter might be in water that could be in excess of 600 ft deep.…

This was very clever! Soldotna Alaska firefighter melts...

Thanks for the friend request. I have not had much of a chance to get to know anyone from Alaska and all we ever hear about Alaska is through Sarah Pallin satires... I'm sure everyone in Alaska doesn't go out Moose hunting and rides snowmobiles, right?

Looking up the Soldotna Alaska FD, I was surprised to learn that your department is very much like mine, which is an all risk department. If it happens, you have to deal with it, because... your it. You folks get what appears to be a lot of plane crashes and MVA's and more than your share of structure fires. Everyone is a paramedic, and to be honest, I was very impressed at my first impression of an Alaskan FD.

I did not that there were no hazmat responses listed on the Soldotna FD Webpage. I was going to offer you help in the world of Hazmat EMS, Hazmat Response and Hazmat Inspections but... it does not look like this is an issue for your part of the world... But if it is, that's where I can offer assistance.

Take care,
CBz
