We just ran a fire-out call a few shifts ago. When we got on scene, we found a burned out night stand smoldering on the front lawn. The father, a retired Navy vet , and donned a respirator and drug the burning mess outside. Props to the Navy, the world's largest fire department.
Anyway, we hung out on scene and waited for the fire investigator to arrive on scene and do his thing. My initial thought was that the kid had thrown a lit cigarette into the drawer to hid it because the burn pattern indicated that the fire had started inside the drawer and burned out to the wall and electrical outlet.
As the investigator started poking around the ruins, I overheard the kid asking my firefighter what batteries did we use. The firefighter started explaining that different things on our truck used different batteries, etc. The kid looked at him kind of funny and said:
"I mean, do you use Duracell. Like in the commercial?"
(BTW- the fire started because the kid had been experimenting with a homemade flashlight that he had seen on YouTube.)
