my libertarian thoughts on abortion

I have always felt the government should stay out of out private lives. So the political side of me understood the basic argument behind Row v Wade of a right to privacy and the government had no role in what a woman did with her reproductive choices. But the human side of me always felt that abortion was wrong. It was wrong to create a life and then end it. For years I debated this in my mind, then one day I resolved the issue. Yes there is a right to privacy, but that right is superseded by a… Continue

a letter to Congressman Bob Barr

Former Congressman Bob Barr wnats to be the LP candidate for president. Here is a letter I shared with him

Dear Congressman Barr,

You asked for my thoughts on what issues and how you should address them in the event you become the Libertarian party candidate for president.

1. After one month in office begin a series of speeches, once a month that talk about the problems we face and your solutions to them. Explain the libertarian philosophy this… Continue

How to get more Volunteers

I posted this on the Missouri Firefighters and Rural Firefighters groups in reply to the same question, how do we get more people into our department. I decided I would add it as on of my blogs also, sorry it is not about politics like my normal blogs.

From everything I have read it seems the National average for volunteer fire department membership is 0.3% of the population severed. That is to say for every 1000 people in your service area you should expect 3 volunteers. Some… Continue

My Creed

THE CREED OF FREEDOM

INTRINSIC NATURE OF RIGHTS

I believe that only individuals have rights, not the collective group; that these rights are intrinsic to each individual, not granted by the state; for if the state has the power to grant them, it also has the power to deny them, and that is incompatible with personal liberty.

I believe that a just government derives its power solely from the governed. Therefore, the state must never presume to do anything beyond what… Continue

Traits of the next president

Now it looks like my choices have been narrowed to three. I still do not know the name, but of this I am this I am certain.

It will be a person who puts the desires of the group ahead of the rights of the individual.
It will be a person who takes from one group to buy votes from another.
It will be a person who tries to engineer our economy and social structure through laws and tax breaks.
It will be a person who has forgotten the meaning of the 10th amendment.

The Draft

Before I give my views on the draft I need to let you know my background. I joined the army 8 days after my 18th birthday. It was during the Iranian hostage crisis, Carter was the president, the cold war was very chilly. I spent most of my 12 years wearing the uniform in the Texas Army National Guard. I love the army, I have the utmost respect for all of the men and women who wear the uniform today. It is an all volunteer force and all of the people in the armed services today have enlisted…

take a fast quiz

This is a link to the world's smallest political quiz. It is 10 questions long, takes 2 minutes to take. See where you fall on the political landscape. I think about 20-25% of you will show up as libertarian, but you may not know that you are. Many people believe as I do, but have not put the L word to it. No matter how you score, let me know if it agrees with how you saw yourself before…

Are you smart enough?

Are you smart enough to be a Libertarian? We do not have generations of Libertarians, who because their parents voted Libertarian, are now a Libertarian. The party is to young for that. The Mega party has members who, the only reason they vote the way they do is because mom and dad voted that way. Therefore no thought has gone into the decision.

No to be a Libertarian you have to think. You have to consider what your principles are and then research what party has the best match with…

My intro Blog

I am going to start a blog on here. It will be a little different from other blogs on this site. My main focus will be on political beliefs, not always on firefighting/EMS. I hope you find what I have to say interesting. I know many people will not agree with every thing I have to say. I am a Libertarian and have libertarian views on most things. Not many people are or feel the way I do. I hope it will make you think, even if you do not agree. If so…
