Arson Week

Rochester Firefighters unveiled a billboard that was designed by 7th grader Thalia Davila from Monroe High School. Assistance to Firefighters Grant (NY)

Four area Fire Departments have received money from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant this month. North Greece will receive $163,638 under Operations and Safety for equipment. Brighton will receive $47,549 under Operations and Safety for equipment. Churchville will receive $32,395 under Operations and Safety for equipment and training. Gates will receive $76,932 under Operations and Safety for Personel Protective Equipment and training.

Busy Afternoon in Hilton

Hilton Firefighter responded this morning for the report of a 3 car MVA head at Bennett Rd & Curtis Rd. Hilton 268, Engine 263, Ambulance 2619 and 2629 all responded. First arriving unit Chief 2c36 was on-location and reported a 3 car MVA head on with injuries. Hilton Dispatcher advised that Monroe Ambulance had 1 ALS Bus on the way and asked if a 2nd ALS rig was needed. 2c36 later requested a 2nd ALS Ambulance to respond. RFD Continues With Change

The Rochester Fire Department continued its change from Quint and Midi’s to Engine and Truck’s with the closing of Quint & Midi 1 and Midi 5. Engine 19 will now be assigned to the Charlotte station (Quint 1) while the old Quint 5 will respond as Truck 5. Midi 5 and Quint & Midi 1 have been disbanded as of this morning. Rural Metro add’s Paramedics

Rural/Metro Medical Services will be adding 9 paramedics to the work force. The additional paramedics are graduates of the 2010 Monroe Community College Paramedic Program. The graduates are currently EMT certified employees and will now serve the community as paramedics, which is highest level in pre-hospital care. Rural Metro Contract Extended

The City of Rochester has extended the contract with Rural Metro to provided ambulance service to the City of Rochester till March of 2011. The contract was going to expire next month, but City leaders decided to extend it while they work on a long term contract.

Mayor’s Ball

Over two hundred people protested the Mayor’s Ball this evening. This is supposed to be the major fund raiser for the democrat party. Teachers and parents protested over the Mayor wanting to take control of the School District. Firefighters were also there as they have been working without a contract since 2008.

CO Detector Law Starts Today

Amandas’s Law which requires carbon monoxide detectors to be installed in any residence with an attached garage or appliance that produces carbon monoxide starts today. There will be a clinic at the Home Depot on Jefferson Rd on March 6 at 9am. The workshop will include installation instructions and more information about the law. FD Involved MVA

Rescue 11 was involved in a mva this afternoon in front of their quarters on North Chestnut St. There were no injuries and only minor damage to the Rescue and the vehicle. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Chili Dispatcher Passes Away

January 26, 2010
Donna Donovan, Chili FD Fire Dispatcher, mother, wife and sister, has passed away today. She will be remembered for her caring and sensitive nature, her laughter and kindness. Donna will truly be missed by all that knew her or heard her on the air for many years. Rest in peace Donna. Fly with the angels.
