Testing at the station

Posted on December 15, 2010 at 12:19pm 0 Comments

In New Mexico we have businesses that will test ladders, test apparatus and test hose but not a business that will do everything during one visit.

The Fire Departments do hose testing and ladder testing and in most cases complete in-service pump testing. The ladders are tested at the station and the hose is tested at the station but it requires time out of service and travel to a water source to do the apparatus in service testing.

Most of the time it results in a muddy mess,…

Apparatus problems and Warranty

Posted on November 7, 2010 at 2:40pm 0 Comments

Lets see, purchase an apparatus? Select a committee? Identify the problems with the last purchase, identify the great things about our BRT (big red truck)

Let's get it right, Emergency One?, Pierce? Sutphen? Rosenbaugher? Seagraves?

The last unit had pump problems, valve problems and the foam injection system gave us problems. Some of us actually look at the apparatus manufacture identity, Does this make it a warranty problem with the apparatus manufacturer? ,The one who put…

Check out this one, test a pumper on site once a year and use the same divice to train pump operators anytime!!!

No heat problem when used wth a 2000 gallon folding tank, no airation problem, clean water no damage to pump impeller, safe operation, do an in service pump test at your station. Don't take it to the lake or river, don't risk getting stuck (have a cook out, eat and watch the pump "enjoy the day")

Train anytime using the device at your station simulate two 1-3/4"…

Engineer training and pumper testing

Posted on October 21, 2010 at 4:18pm 2 Comments

How do you train an engineer? Minimize water usage? Focus on safe pump operations and use all the functions of the apparatus?

Training the engineer usually ends up as nozzleman training, or a wild nozzle because a strap broke on a line that was thought to be secure. A line can be charged when someone is not ready for water.

Usually focus is on the safety of the firefighter on the charged line, The training is interupted, focus is on safety and usually thousands of gallons of…

Thank you,   for the infomation.  Our truck is a borrowed truck, when we are done  with it the  owners want it back. We have had it 10 years so far. We love that truck and we will use it at a fire hydrant but we would  like to get it  all fixed. We just bought another fire engine Lots  smaller, its an E- 52 GMC. We are proud of that new one but want our La France in working order. Once again thank you..
