About Me:
I am single, and almost finished getting my AAS degree in fire science. I am currently qualified as a HazMat Technician and as an EMT in the state of Arkansas, and once I graduate, I am open to going just about anywhere.
Relationship Status:
Single
Why I Joined Fire/EMS
Like many little boys, I wanted to be a firefighter. Many years later I joined the Air Force and served 8 years. I have been trained as a respiratory therapist and have dealt with many emergencies in a hospital setting. Firefighting is something that I've chosen to do, not something that I grew up knowing or something that was thrust upon me. I want to continue helping people, helping them by saving their memories as well as their lives.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
honor, duty, helping people, pride in civic service
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Training and Finances for more personnel, better wages, and equipment

Final Semester

Posted on January 12, 2009 at 10:17pm 2 Comments

I finally have a few months left to go. This semester, my final one before receiving an Associate's of Applied Science degree in Fire Science, I am taking Criminal Law, Terrorism and Homeland Security, Firefighter II, Firefighter Safety and Survival, Concepts of Physical Fitness, and Emergency Vehicle Driving Operations. Once I graduate, however, I have no idea what I'll be doing or where I'll be doing it. It may be here in Arkansas and it may not be, just depends on where the jobs are located.

HazMat Technician

Last Friday, I completed Hazardous Materials Technician training for the state of Arkansas. The next and last off-schedule course I will need (plus completing my college degree in fire science) is wildlands training, which is in October. Once I graduate in May, I will be ready to take the FFI and II exams.

This month, on Tuesday and Thursday nights, we had our structure and exterior fire classes. So, I'm now certified in both exterior fires and structure I and II. This fall, probably in October, we will complete Structure III and IV. It's also possible that in September I will take a HazMat Technician course, if the rest of my classes will allow it.

The structure fires were very interesting and exciting. I performed various tasks, including pump operator, backup team nozzle man, attack… Continue
