The Backroom Crew

This is a place where we can sit down, put our feet up and chill. Where the Boys and Girls can just be themselves. The Back Room or what most firefighters call a ''day room or rec room'' is the social point of every firehouse.

Baily my officers and trainers beat our asses if we ALSO did not help each other... teamwork... if we see another woman/man struggling WHY AREN'T WE HELPING THEM BE SUCCESSFUL !!!

Since WE MUST access everyones strengths and compensate for their weaknesses and help them work to remove their weaknesses to make the entire team stronger.

So if we ever laugh at someone else struggling or stand back and watch instead of helping them learn... even outside of class... our committment to teamwork was called into question...

This also holds true to how we were expected to treat the rookies... Help them... don't mock them... or trash talk them...

Sarah girl - glad you made up with your teacher - but don't drink coffee... it stunts your growth ;-)

If you don't and remain individuals, you are not what I want in my fire department, even if you were a top scoring student. I want a team player.

Helping eachother suceed! Like calling her and reminding her of what is expected tomorrow, if thats what it takes. I have seen brothers call another student every morning or go pick him up because the company will suffer if he continues to be late.

It is called making sacrafices for the good of the company, the department, or the mission...

Thats what they want you to figure out as a group. The fire service is problem solving as a group!

You may have missed my point, peer pressure leadership with students pressing other students to meet standards or benchmarks is a built in.

When one is not meeting the mark, then the peer pressure leadership kicks in. The entire company is going to be in trouble. The interpersonal dynamics of males/females in this setting, (sometimes the first time young people are exposed to it) can be challenging. Think about your past learning experiences, you were individuals who were responsible for your own work, grades, and success or failure.

I grabbed my laptop, so I can stay a little longer!

Not that it should matter, but dependant upon kids upbringing, some may lack the experience and maturity to calculate unforeseen poor judgement comments during peer pressure leadership.

By the end of the week, the faculty (if on the ball) should have seen the proceedings and should intervene to avoid conflict. I know I would if I were the lead. Sorry ladies no offense... I hate to see "look the other way" tactics and let them sort it out on their own, ruin the good ones.
