The Backroom Crew

This is a place where we can sit down, put our feet up and chill. Where the Boys and Girls can just be themselves. The Back Room or what most firefighters call a ''day room or rec room'' is the social point of every firehouse.

Sarah - practice sitting quietly - shut out all distractions - shut off all electronics and practice physiologically relaxing your body.

Take deep slow breath - in through your nose then breath slowly out through your mouth like you are blowing through a straw

Do this hour after hour - storm after storm - until YOUR BODY LEARNS - you will not tolerate the body over-reacting

Often when the body reacts in flight mode - it makes our mind THINK we are scared - you need to re-train your body to listen to your mind ... and then tell your mind you are not going to be scared - you are going to be calm like a Buddist Monk - inside and out

When your heart races - you intentionally calm it down through your thinking

When your skin has chills - you intentionally tell each inch of your skin to relax

When your muscles tighten - you intentionally tell each muscle one after another to relax

over and over and over until your body listens to your mind

good luck

I freak out pretty bad during storms.

I guess since I have had some close calls with lightning over the years..

Aww, now I don't :3

Anyone here have any tips on a problem I have?

I have a horrible fear of thunder storms. I have tried facing my fears, but hell, nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Sarah, I think we've all done that. I used to have a bedroom door that would stick every once in a while, well, I pulled really hard, expecting it to be stuck, and clocked myself with the door, giving myself a black eye, so dont feel bad. you ok now?
