I only lived one side of the issue - I need to explore the other ides of the issue... administration, leadership, non-family members experiences...

Only the REALLY SPECIAL PEOPLE get to OWN their own bus...

So maybe some departments should intentionally seek to recruit family members?

Or encourge rookies to join with family members?

Is it town size that has the greatest impact or town culture?

Because of my experience I never had to be he "non" family member group. We had ALOT of rookies come and go - that just sort of drifted out of the dept. While ALL family member rookies - stayed forever alongside their family member.

So how many are related on your current dept and how many on your last?

So I served 10 years - alongside my brother, husband, brother-in-law and father-in-law on my FD... and my other 2 siblings on MA FDs.

More than 30% of our dept was related to each other AND MA depts.

There were huge benefits and huge negatives for me - and the dept.
