The Backroom Crew

This is a place where we can sit down, put our feet up and chill. Where the Boys and Girls can just be themselves. The Back Room or what most firefighters call a ''day room or rec room'' is the social point of every firehouse.

... it is ok, Ralph... I am not really a joiner...

so you won't have to worry about too much gang activity from me - though FW brings it out in me...

I am more of a sniper... ;-)

and as described in other general posts... I do not go by gawd... it is Lady Heather or Goddess Heather or Mistress Heather

i was kind of kidding when i said i was a therapist and if you want to talk find me - but i really am a therapist and most people find it not only fun, but helpful to talk to me.... you can email me too, it is more private than this forum... the same goes to anyone who is reading this post...

and i hear ya about rough background - i am sure i have experienced nothing as hard as you have, but i came from a crazy family and have gone through some bizarre horrible experiences over the years

my bet is that many people on this site have has similar backgrounds - i think the nature of being in the emergency service industry makes us all see more horror and loss than we ever wanted to see or know or experience in life.

and the nature of being in the service of others means that we constantly put our own personal needs aside for the betterment of others, which can often be very detrimental over the long haul.

If you read some of the general forums posts - recently on the Fire Stats & EMS Stats discussions we were just talking about how many people in our industry end up divorced (75-87%) because we give give give to everyone else and neglect ourselves and our spouses.

it is hard to keep everything in balance
and not get caught up in the drama that is life

Thank you Jessica
Chad: its nothing to be scared about , i was only 24 when i had to have both my knee joints replaced at the same time , i was attacked while i was on a leave while in the Marine Corps and unfortunately my knees took the brunt of the attack , my knees were shot at that point due to sports also but my surgery back then wasnt what it is now a days

It is important for everyone to have a role... and to feel important in that role... sounds like you embrace it proudly...

So glad to meet you.

Heather she hit the nail right on the head. I'm the one who loves to find all the new chains she uses. Recently I picked up some nice heavy duty ones in pink. FW was extatic : )

Chad welcome to the club I'm 26 and I have a knee that loves to give me heck all the years of sports when I was growing up stretched the tendons around the knee cap so now it slides in and out. Not much they can do for it but brace it when it bothers me. Then I pop some advil and use ice and heat. I still do sports and am cleared for firefighting thank god I have a great ortho doc. who figured out what was wrong with it before it drove me nuts.

Thanks Jessica. FW advised me you are an important force in this system of madness.

Chad - maybe see an orthopedic surgeon just for a consult - they can do othoscopic surgery now in an hour which makes a huge difference and prevents greater injury over the long haul - and they make cuts that are less than 1" long and it can be life changing and make the length of your career much happier - without so much pain
