This is a place where we can sit down, put our feet up and chill. Where the Boys and Girls can just be themselves. The Back Room or what most firefighters call a ''day room or rec room'' is the social point of every firehouse.

Good evening all ...especially you Cherished Lady Heather!
Well I drove 3.5 hrs last nite to work this week and got laid off at the end or the day...oh well now I'm home with my family. I work construction so I'm use to this...now time to get ready for the next job.
Wow Jim - hope everyone is all right... Sounds like you did a great job saving this home. I hate blown insulation - such a mess.
Sorry you missed you favorite mid-day event... Hopefully tomorrow you can have double your pleasure at said "recess" opportunity...
Get some rest...
Patti interesting article. It may still be true that the FF still did deserve the ticket. I have observed many FFs driving reckless - as though lights and sirens means total disregard for the safety of others.
Here where I live right now there is a big thing about the PD/fire/EMS stopping for red lights and stop signs AND WAITING UNTIL CLEAR or ALL OTHER TRAFFIC FROM ALL 4 DIRECTIONS HAS STOPPED... since so many fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, etc. have close calls in intersections because they run red lights/stop signs or stop and go when all the traffic has not seen them yet (especially approaching on a green traffic). Our town specifically is pushing hard that ALL emergency vehicles increase their level of attention to the safety of community members and ENSURE that they are not "creating danger" while trying to go rescue another.
I do believe FF/EMS/PD are called to higher standard of practice to drive within the speed limit and mind all traffic laws - arriving on scene 1 minute earlier because you did 90 mph or scared someone to practically drive off the road is ridiculous. And those who practice that STYLE of LIFE SAVING should get tickets.
The PD here are starting to cut-off police traffic pursuits - since it is becoming blatantly obvious that the police's attempt to HELP is actually causing more danger to the community. I have had 2 car chases come by me on the freeway - about gave me a heart attack - cars all over swerving, braking - and I am trained in emergency driving - but each time I would say not only the criminal was being reckless but the police were also being reckless (10 police cars flying around me on both sides, dodging traffic - was way more threatening to my life than the one "get-away speeder" car).
Fire fighters can be arsonists AND fire fighters can be reckless drivers.

Bigs hugs back to you Tomilicious...
PATTI PATTI PATTI - how the heck ya doing girl??? I have missed you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH ! How ya feeling - making any progress in that region?
Wow Rachel - sounded complicated. I always prefer that the dispatcher err on the side of caution - never UNDER-ESTIMATE the situation... it is easier to return people, than it is to sit and wait for more to be called while a fire builds. Flame + electricity + old bldg = I can see their jumping off point from the dispatch
and it covers all the calls which have been "a little smell of smoke" and I arrive to find half of the bldg fully engulfed with flames
i remember one day a (Vermont) neighbor was housesitting for a family while they were in Hawaii - it was below zero in temps and there was feet of snow and this neighbor was visiting the house and stoking the wood furnace - then going back to his house next door (out of sight)... the "housesitter" smelled some smoke - and decided to go back to check the furnace again ... [house deep in the woods, away from the masses], he arrived back at the neighbor's house to find a burning cellar-hole, since the entire house had already burned down - UN NOTICED - ...long... before the FD was invited... We got called for a "fully involved structure fire" - so arriving on scene was quite funny - there had been NO structure for more than 1 hour by the time we arrived... talk about a total loss... so we no longer needed the 4 other FDs invited since the structure is already GONE GONE GONE
the best thing was as we put out the smoking cellar hole and did overhaul, a smoldering kitty escaped from the rubble - and my guys grabbed it and put out its smoking fur with snow and then the housesitter took the kitty to the vet - and SHE LIVED :)
Good Morning Everyone! Hope everyone had a good weekend. Big hugs to the Cherished Lady on this Monday Morning.
PATTI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What's up?????????? Big Hugs to Patti too!
Rachel, sounds like there was definitely an issue with miscommunication. Unfortunately, that happens a lot. Hopefully everyone else got cancelled in a timely manner.
Over the weekend I was working for a friend of mine, when the transformer blew. The electrical line caught fire-the flame was the size of a candle flame. We lost power to the building we were working in. She did not know what to do and was afraid that the litle flame would race down the power line and light up the 1960 era wooden building. She proceded to call 9-1-1. She told the dispatcher the location of the problem-a well known old building in our town- when dispatch asked what the problem was she answered, "There is an electrical fire at the church, a wire is on fire." Needless to say dispatch called back to make sure we were out of the building. That is when I knew something was wrong. We moved out of the building and I waited outside for fire-rescue. A deputy arrived and asked where the fire was. I showed him the little flame up on the power line. He radioed back o dispatch to downgrade the response, it was a line outside of the building that was aflame. He proceded to tell me that it had been dispatched as a "Working structure fire". When the deputy heard the location he responded immediately because he knew that the building on the location dispatched could go down very quickly. The Rescue Unit and the Engine responded. (The career department) They were all dressed up and ready to extinguish a "working structure fire". They were very disappointed! (Did I mention that they had been on duty for ONLY 10 minutes before being toned out?!?!) They watched until the little flamed died out by itself. Then the rescue returned to quarters. The engine waited until the power company came to fix the problem, before they too, returned to quarters. I heard later that day that not only did the career guys and the volunteer department in that district get toned out, but dispatch also toned out the volunteer departments in the two bordering districts!!! So for that little flame we had manpower coming from 3 volunteer departments and 5 personnel from the career department!!
I don't know whether the lady did not give a clear enough discprition of the problem or if dispatch forgot to ask more questions. Hmmmm....
TCSS!!!
Good Morning Everyone! Happy Monday!
Hey BRC!
Heather- look for a message from me!
Kyle-So what exactly happened? My area has yet to have a fire since April-our community seems to have gotten the "fire safety" message!!( A little too well!!)
Heather- The party went pretty well and the kids really had a blast, which was really fun to see!! Kelly, aka the wife, and the friend of the in-laws, had a pretty good time from the looks of it. All in all, not too bad for that 11-11-11 thing...LOL!!
Classes are going really good and really fast as we are through the entire book and lectures and now just concentrating on all the practical skills. I will be conducting my 10-hour ER observation time this coming Saturday and our state practical testing will be Dec. 10th. with national written sometime after that (haven't scheduled that yet).
