I would like to talk about the first shift or the first few weeks after a promotion. It is a strange place to be in, you were just peers with somebody and now you are a superior to them or you were promoted over a good friend and now it is ackward. There are so many stores and ideas to share that I thought this might be a great place to start.
i hear you, when i got that white helmet in my volly dept, i went from being "one of the guys" to ohh shhhh here comes chief, still kind of weird. same thing happened when i landed a career job, all the sudden i became the"cocky paid guy" over night
After 20 yrs i have put on the LT hat because no one else would step up. It makes it different because of all the more crap you need to sort through. It's still firefighting just from a different angle. The talk will always be there. I have found that more members want to bring there issues to me. Lkie i said more crap to sort through. After doing the firefighter gig both career in Florida and volly on Long Island I find that fire is fire and training being vital. It's hard to train people when they don't show for training. Not manditory enough in bilaws. Some would call it the country club. Frustrating to say the least. alot of effort for a small return!
yeah i know what you mean in my 30 years service ive seen best of friends stab each other in the back just for promotion [ its sickening].i was lucky just been promoted but sent to another district where i did not know anyone, WE ARE ALL GETTING ON GREAT.HOPE YOU THE
BEST OF LUCK AND MANY MORE YEARS IN FIREFIGHTING. KEEP SAFE.
