As a son of a Fallen Firefighter, it's nice to see groups like this forming. I'm well aware of the MacBoston crew and the good they do. HELP SUPPORT them! Remember, you can watch the NFFF Memorial Service on Oct 3rd live online through the Foundation's website www.firehero.org. I will be attending the service again, and this year DOD firefighters are finally being honored. I will be accepting a flag for one of the 11 being honored. Hope you all tune in, it is a truly amazing service that is put on.

This is a wonderful post. The issues of LODD and the death of firefighters off the job is very near and dear to my heart. I have had firends and aquantinces sucomb under both conditions. In fact I found myself IC at a MVA where one of my young fireman collided head on with a tractor trailer. He, his five year old daughter, and girfriend all parished. The accident happened in our fire district on a main state route. Although I try to avaid this route of travel, I can honestly say a day does not go by that I do not think about that fateful night when my fire departmen lost a young brother and his young family. Being IC makes your own thoughts more intense. Wether on the job or off, the loss of a brother or sister firefighter/EMS worker hits me hard. The sacrifice we all make for the love of our jobs, volunteer/paid, is unmatched in any other profession I am aware of. I am proud to be a firefighter. R.I.P. Rossi, Alyssa and Laura.

When I think of the brothers and sisters that have been lost on scene or in life in general, it makes me think of what they might have seen and dealt with, while here on earth. I makes me think of how they must have endured to stay committed to these sights and situations. It makes me feel like saluting each one that put their lives on the line to save others. I wonder what each one thought as they saw the flames, heard a collapse, or saw their partner fall in front or them. I can't imagine how their families felt to hear the news. My heart goes out to those who have lost or have been lost, because they weren't afraid, and were doing what we love to do.
