Hey guys, so I passed my written and agility test. The agility wasn't the CPAT but was still timed and I got it done in 6 minutes and 48 seconds! 6 events were timed and the other two weren't because of safety reasons. Now I'm just waiting back on how I did with the oral board and I can start vol. FF recruit school in the fall. Just FYI it PAYS to look up oral board questions even for vol. FF tests because I got the heads up on the "you're working a salvage assignment when your partner is seen taking valuables, what do you do?"

Good morning All,

I'm sitting here in Colorado trying to stay warm! I just wanted to post a quick note to stress the importance of preparing for upcoming firefighter career tests coming up this year. There is more activity in the area of new hiring than I've seen in probably 5 years. I think that now that the economy is getting back on track many departments that have been told to wait on hiring until budgets get better are finally getting the go ahead. Keep an eye on the departments you're interested in they will probably be hiring soon. Good luck to you and keep everyone posted on your testing process. Remember we're here to help you out any way possible.

Stay warm! Roger

Thanx for the invite Roger. We have 7 students taking Firefighter Training right now and I want to help them any way I can. I am Level II and Fire Officer I certified but currently on the inactive list. I can still help them at the station though

Hi Lee,
the "CPAT" is the only reconized national physical testing by the International Association of firefighters and the National Chief Association. CPAT stands for Candidate Physical Ability Test, this testing consists of eight timed events. There are other physical ability tests out there and departments do not have to use the CPAT. But again it's nationally reconized so more and more departments are using it. Not to push my website here but I do cover the CPAT in more detail on my site. http://www.firefighterconnection.com

Hope this helps,

Be Safe,
Roger

ok, my question is this. "Are there different types of PATs?" and "What are the events most commonly used in the tests and what can we do to prep for these events?"

Does anyone have a good training program or workout to get ready for a CPAT test?

Whats going on, I'm starting all my testing in March and seeing if you all had some advisor whether CPAT, or just things that could help in general.
