Yes, I forgot the "r" in your... my bad....

I was channeling my late Grandmother, who's French Canadian accented English tended to drop the letter "r" and add the letter "h" to words that began with the letter "o"...
So I've waded through the myriad of responses to this topic. Wow! It's been thoroughly entertaining and I think we even managed to cover off at least 6 different topics in one. Now that's value for money!!!!

If only we could get the same level of enthusiasm for topics related to SAFETY and LODD REDUCTION.... :-(
Funny, we consider ourselves firemen and we aren't like that at all. A lot of our things around the fire house say fireman. That's because we are traditional and very old school. I don't see what calling each other firemen has to do with the things that you said. Not one of the 2000 firemen that I work with has a light bar or siren considering we are all full-time in a busy city just trying to do our job.

We aren't credible either? We run 175,000 runs every year. My company alone runs 20+ runs/tour. Like it said, we say firemen because it's traditional. It's what everyone used to be called. We take great pride in still being one of the most traditional departments around.
ok i read all of the responses and (sigh) here's my 2scents (yes that a typo) all this hoo-ha over a t-shirt? ok its not represenative of the image anyone would want about our fire department but believe me fighter pilots still attend tailhook and they got 30 million dollar planes and weapons that can make some neighborhoods gang free (yes that was politalally incorrect)...in any case how many FDNY shirts are floating around on bodies that dont deserve it? i love what i call my "testosrone shirts". some are close to the edge such as my police shirt that says "police brutality, the fun part of police work" or my military shirt that says "tailhook, i wasnt there, the t-shirt was". i like the non generic ones ( wont mention which department so if you know the saying, enjoy it)....Ladder 69 with an approiate logo...life begins at engine 40....EMS, i saved a F#$%^n life today (on the back), you're next...airway, breathing, cancel the medics...i got more but i'm gonna stop now and say that everyone has a point good and bad. and its not what you wear that defines what kind of firefighter you are or department you're in or what people say about it. to quote Tyler Perry's Madea, it's not what you're called, it's what ya answer to. (right now i'm wearing my, "it's never an emergency...until its your ass" shirt.

Well said Russ.... Here are some more ideas for your dept. lol
