I have no problem with someone doing any type of job just for the money . . . as long as they are good, proficient, competent and knowledgeable in it. I would rather someone like this working beside me than someone who loves the job but has no frickin' clue as to what he's doing but loves to wear the "Big Johnson - I Fight What You Fear" T-shirt, hat, belt buckle and underwear.
Does it help to love doing your job? Absolutely. That is true in any field of work that you do, but just because someone is working for a paycheck to support their family and put food on their table does not take away one iota from the skill and competence they can provide.
Now with this said, I am a volunteer. I have to rely on working another job for my paycheck (which I would still do regardless of whether I liked it or no since I kinda like to eat and have a roof over my head)
Why are there morons out there that try their best to drive a wedge between Volunteer and Career Firefighters...? I am totally sick and tired of this crap and will continue to say so in every STUPID post like this that I see....Yes, I said STUPID...!!! As a Jr. you need to learn...YOU ARE NOT A FIREFIGHTER...!!! You may be someday(God help us all)....1st thing I learned when I joined the Fire Service was the "3 UP RULE" and I would highly suggest that you learn them as well.....#1....Show up......#2...Keep up.....#3...Shut up. OK, I am off of my soapbox (for now).......Paul
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Aside from being able to help people in bad situations..I love firefighting because when the Alerts drop I get a adrenaline rush like no other lol...It's so cool
if your in this profession because you get your adrenaline rush like no other....your in the wrong profession
Why I Joined Fire/EMS
To help my community, and because I want to help people...I want to make a carrer out of it!
Try Career, but with your piss poor attitude you wont have to worry...it's not going to happen little buddy!
Next drill, do the fire service a favor, leave your gear and dont come back! Ok Jeremy
I can not believe I am saying this.... yet here it goes, I now have to agree with Derek. Jeremy, if some thing they say bugs you ignore it yo will get no where and it is very disrespectful and you will not get any where with it. Even I who has gone of half cocked a few time will say this, respect your elders (d*&^ now I sound like my dad) Unless there is good reason....
typical.....1 year in and 20 years experience eh Jeremy.....Keep it respectful....some of these guys will put you over their knee and spank your ass for you.....
At the risk of wasting my time answering a stupid question, yes, I have a problem with it.
I'm in my 21st year of doing it for the money. I have underwear with more time on the job than you. I know why I do what I do, and you can be sure I'd be doing something else the minute they stopped paying me to do it. But as long as they are paying me, I'll be happy to go on another run, just like the - with no exaggeration - thousands I've done already. I'll be happy to put out another fire, just like the hundreds I've done already. There's no counting the number of people I've helped or the different ways in which I've done it.
When you grow up (I'm giving you a huge benefit of the doubt here) and become a fireman in more than just a name only, you might realize just how incredibly ignorant it is for someone with you're level of experience (basically none) to try to tell someone like me he's in the wrong career field.
