I am attending the Maryland State Firemens' Asso convention in Ocean City MD and the group was told to contact their Congress people of both parties and ask that they not shut down the National Fire Training Academy. I know there are many that have gain very much needed education to become learders of the fire service, plus the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial is at that location.

Please contact your congress members and tell them we need the Academy.

After investigating further my congressman couldn't find anyone who said this was even on the table. You might re-check your source and figure out where this concern comes from

.

I'd take what you hear out there very lightly.  haha  Not exactly the most reliable place to get information.

All I can tell you is that one of the people on the stage told the crowd on the convention center ballroom sound system that this was happening and to contact your congress people and tell them not to shut down the academy.

Oh it was an official announcement?  I thought you just meant it was a rumor.  Doesn't help that I know that convention as a giant party at Seacrets.  haha  Unfortunately we don't have a DCFD day there this week since our Pipes and Drums decided to the year off from playing in OC.

With the NFA receiving 1.5 million dollars more than their actual budget request, the ongoing geothermal energy project, and several other new programs, it seems unlikely that this is accurate.

The USFA is up for reauthorization this year, but that occurs every four years.

It seems unusual that no one else is reporting a potential NFA shutdown as a possibility.

I was thinking the same thing, Ben. If this was happening, it would be all over the firefighter news and websites, I would think. It doesn't seem to be something that will come and go quietly.
