Rescue or Engine?

How does your dept. handle MVA's? Do you have a rescue truck or do you just use your engine? If you have a rescue, is it light, medium, or heavy? What kind of equpment do you have on it? My dept. runs a medium duty rescue that has an onboard PTO generator that runs pre connected extrication equipment, a 20 ft. telescoping light tower, full sets of lift bags and rams, hand tools, various saws and scene lighting. As well as other tools and water rescue equipment.

Having a major interstate running through our district we have to run a rescue and an engine, you just can’t fit that much equipment on 1 truck, I’ll attach a pic of our rescue, never mind the name it’s from just before we bought it, couldn’t afford 250grand for a new one. It has a stand-alone 30kw diesel generator, full complement of extraction equipment, gas and electric power units, 2-100ft hydraulic reels, 2-100ft power cords, 2 high output telescoping lights, cascade and spare bottles, walk-through design with a command center, oh and plastic cribbing, lots of it, plus our rope rescue gear and a bunch of other stuff. Engine is mainly for suppression and traffic control but also carries a spare set of jaws.

We run with both an Engine and a Rescue truck...we are in a small community and have a very large rural area to cover so we have to take everything from soup to nuts with us.....Paul

we run our engine she has every thing on board except the kitchen sink

We run an Engine and an ambulance. If it sounds like we may need jaws, we also respond a truck company.

My dept. runs a Rescue/Engine. It carries 750 gallons and a 1250 pump, two sets of tools, high pressure bags all the cribbing, absorbant, hazmat pools and suits. On the other side of the truck it has all its structural tools, fan, hand tools, lights, operators stuff. It also carries the NFPA hose requirements ans a couple buckest of foam and a generator and 2 tripod lights. the only thing we dont have is rescue struts.

We usually run our Engine with the Rescue, and both Ambulances. However lately the rescue is OOS for repair, and we moved a lot of what we could from there to our Ladder and the Mini-Pumper. Now for MVAs we run the Engine, Ladder, Mini, both Ambulances. Our Rescue is a Heavy Rescue and carries extrication, some ventilation (mainly fans), 18 spare SCBA bottles, brooms, shovels, rakes, EMS (NYSDOH 800 for ambulance), some HazMat, and some Fire Police. Also carries bottled water for us on scene, and other rehab items.

Both of our engines are equipped with hydralic tools. Normally on interstate MVA's we run one engine. If we have extra personnel show up we send both an use one as a blocker. We have had both sets of tools in service at the same time.

We run a HEAVY RESCUE, ENGINE, and SQUAD.
The medic's run seperate from the fire dept.
they will send as many buses as needed,depending
on the number of victims involved.

Our department uses a rescue vehicle as well as an engine on all mva's. each one to do its own job; rescue vehicle for any and all extrication or rescue situations, and an engine for fire suppression. we are a full volunteer station with 3 engines , 1 brush, 1 rescue, and one squad truck for medical assist. with about 23 active members. since it is fully volunteer, there may be a slight difference in time between each truck leaves( example: 3 minute difference max) because all members are required to respond to the station ( not to the scene via pov, unless otherwise permitted) i said all that to ask this question: if there is an mva, what do you think should be the first equipment to hit the road? rescue or engine? our policy is that rescue is first out for all mva's , so that is what we abibe by. however, there are opposing ideas to this and i was just curious of what other departments may be doing

most of our calls are handled by a one or two engine response. in the south part of our county, we use a ladder truck as a rescue, taking advantage of the rolling tool box but the majority of incidents are handled by an engine company that have all the tools you mentioned in your post. CB

Unless there is additional info, the initial response is a single engine co. A full rescue response gets an additional truck, heavy rescue and a BC.

Are dept. runs a rescue and a engine to all mvas. Are rescue sounds like it is set up alot like yours.
