For me it's flashlights, I have a LED helmet light, a mini maglight and a neat four bulb LED light that clips to the peak of a hat, or in my case a face shield.
(I am also hinting to the family that a Pelican survivor light would be apreciated for my birthday).
To many lights?
Before anyone asks, I only have one green light in my car, and it is not a light bar.
I agree with you passion for flash lights. I carry a Streamlight Scorpion on my belt, a pen light in my EMT holster, a small halogen with a laser pointer in side pocket and I also have a halogen head lamp for night and low light accident scenes, etc. I guess my other thing as an EMT would be pens. I practically have one in every pocket along with patient care mini-notebooks so I can recall things by reading them and not racking my brain for a vital sign or a symptom.
Sad to say, but I only have one set of everything in my gear. I do have one pocket always full of stuff for other people. I keep a pack of cigarettes because my chief and asst. chief always run out at a long scene. A bottle of tylenol because there are always members with headaches. Oh and most important ponytail holders, because I always need to put my hair up before putting on my nomex hood so my hair isn't in the way...Typical Girl I know, but I don't don't fight fires like one!
mine is nomex hoods and gloves.
i carry two pair of fire gloves and two pair of work gloves and i carry three hoods so when they get wet i can change them out.
Weight - I carry too much weight. My gear is old, it was old when I got it and it's only older now. The jacket is 4 sizes too big... that's right, FOUR, the pants are two sizes too big. I am not a 44 jacket, 36 pant! It's what was available at the time because the department did not have the budget to buy the last class new gear! This extra weight is killing my neck, the jacket sits on the neck and pulls it forward knocking me out of whack. I hate it.
lol... now that felt good!! lol... apparently I've been carrying that around as well. My new gear is ordered, it's lighter, it's thinner, it improves agility, I can't wait to get it!! Yaaaayyy!! Until then, sigh....
my thing i carry to much of is gloves. i carry one initial pair for fire attack and a spare pair to change into after i make an initial attack. then i carry a pair of extrication glove with me. i carry two more pairs of gloves in my gear bag. i could rent a couple of pair and make some money on fire scenes. lol.
I used to carry too many pagers(two fire and one med) but the fires were for the same company until we got a call and made sure that the one worked. The med was a "Demo".Soon, when i get the money,I will have another Med pager. So that's still two pagers and thats one too many to me.
I would have to say it's gloves for me. I carry my firefighting gloves on a strap on the left side of my bunker coat. I carry extrication gloves in the right coat pocket. I carry medical gloves in the left coat pocket, (don't want to be without those ever). And I carry a pair of leather work gloves in my right bunker pants leg pocket. Stay safe!
