About Me:
My department is new and was formed in March 2005 as we consolidated with our neighboring department. East Fallowfield Volunteer Fire Department and Hartstown Volunteer Fire Department became Fallowfield Fire & Rescue. One department with two station. We are a rural fire department.

Why I Joined Fire/EMS
My husband was a volunteer firefighter for our local department. He spent so much time at the station that I never saw him when he wasnt working, and so I became a social member, then the secretary of the department. One of the guys in the department made a smart comment about female firefighters and me becoming one. So, I joined the fire side of the department and got geared up the next day. I have since went on to become an EMT and active firefighter!
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Being there for the community when they need us the most, and of course to prove that I do it!
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Financial Support. For small departments like mine the ability to generate funding to pay operating expenses is astronomical. Members are forced to spend almost more time on fundraising efforts then on training. There are not enough grants or federal support for volunteer departments. As quickly as america came to realize after 911 what we do everyday , it seems as though it only lastes as long as it took for the ashes to settle. If there was more focus on important isuess such as funding for equipment and trainning we would not be losing so many brothers and sisters in countless ways to the fire service.

TAKING MY LIFE BACK...PART I

Posted on January 21, 2008 at 11:00am 2 Comments

I have alot of demons that chase me around..Now these begin outside the fire service..but because I refuse to face them they affect in all aspects in my life. A wise friend once told me that I had to face these...deal with them...learn from them..and then simply MOVE ON WITH MY LIFE! That is what I am going to attempt to do here. I am not one for talking about myfeelings because I am much better at building walls around them and…

Just when I think that I put a call in the past behind me...it creeps up and attacks out of nowhere! I had been at the department almost all day today doing paperwork. A group of members were there cleaning the ceilings in the truck bay. Someone asked me if I had any hand lotion since their hands were dried out from the cleaning chemicals and the gloves. I didn't have any but I knew that I had put some Hand Lotion on the…

You are never alone, Although sometimes it may seem like you are. But, for the most part the good times and friendships outnumber the bad times.
Stay safe in PA - the cold from Chicago is on it's way.

omg....I just got the whole story. She added me to Yahoo messenger and you can too if you want. It's the same name as here. She's talking more but needs a swift kick in the ass....I don't get why she's bearing the burden..

Please talk to Emily. We need to rally the troops for her . She needs to hear from as many of us as possible to let her know that she's really ok. That's part of our job too, ya know?
