How many of us had/have Howe apparatus?We still have our first new truck,a 1964 IH Howe heavy 1 ton,that is currently our brush truck.

He said that you knew when to get out, cause the tips of your ears would get hot. Now thats fire fighting " old school "

I can remember when we had to stand on the back bumper to go to a call. We had special straps so we won't fall off.

One time we had the lights go out ---- the spot lights on both sides still worked ---- So the spot lights were used for our headlights.

Comment by Jay Nicholson on March 4, 2011 at 8:39pm: In 1983 we still had an open cabbed, gas powered, engine as a reserve engine. Also ran a Crown soft top telesqirt. It was raining so hard one day that the siren and emergency lighting shorted out. Didn't really need them though as we were the only idiots out in the storm.
