When Do You Go On Air? Yard Breathng

Its been along time since I masked up. I keep seeing comments about yard breathing. I remember turning on the bottles in the engine, grabbing a line and going in. (yes we did check doors and windows and signs for backdrafts)

Is the new school to turn on the air at the door? And if you have a 30 min bottle, how long to you plan on being inside?

If someone thinks they need to mask up while still on the piece then they probably haven't been to a fire EVER.

Not exactly what I was thinking you were saying, but I agree completely.

I've told several guys with me what almost happened to the guy who masked up in the truck and came >< this close to frying himself.

Witnessing it was close enough for me. If I'm on the engine or truck, you better not be wearing a mask upon arrival.

It saves breathing air. Otherwise you have to run from waaaaaay down the street to get to the scene. Which reduces your 1/3 for breathing outside.

Perfectly logical isn't it?

As stated alot of factors involved. Depending on the situation, air travel..etc (defensive) I haven't gone on air at all. Please note I'm outside the building. When going inside, I Scott up just before going in. On some occassions even the Engr had to pack up, because of the smoke and toxic area. Also masking up to soon, limits what you can see (tunnel vision) and what you hear to a degree.
