Alternative Water Supply Using Bladder/Pillow Tanks
Just wondering if anyone has used 50,000 gallon bladder/pillow tanks as an alternative water supply? I'm exploring this. I've got our state fire coordinator looking for surplus tanks. I've also found them for sale around $2,500 bucks on ebay. Hopefully someone has already done this and can give me some pointers or just gimmie your thoughts.

Bulky... need a way to lift, move and transport them. Have only seen them used by the USFS. A resource with unlimited resources... Have also heard about these being used to store contaminated water.

Do your pumps like eating stringy slime?
You're better off with spreading out a lot of more conventional static water supply sources - creeks, ponds, backyard swimming pools, and starting a dry hydrant program.
The long term solution is a real water main system with lots of hydrants.
If there's new development, start by local legislation requiring that the developers include hydrant and water main installations and paying impact fees to suppor the costs of the additional fire protection.

We had some of these over in the desert. I never had a chance to use them but they seemed to hold up. Some of them they had fuel stored in for fighters, and some for firefighting water. They are heavy. We never had any leaking or ruptures... but I couldn't tell you much about them, it was several years ago...

These tanks would be staged at predetermined locations and the water would be treated to inhibit algal growth. Water system would be nice, but it aint gonna happen.
