I have gotten quite a few e-mails from people who didn't know what the entire acronym LOVERS PLUS stood for when they checked out the Cancel The Engine group (for the hidden truckie in all of you). FirefighterNation should be a learning tool and people shouldn't be shy about asking when they don't know, so I said I'd just share it all and be out with it:

Ladders and elevated operations
Overhaul
Ventilation
Entry (Forcible, preferably)
Rescue (very important)
Salvage

Power supply
Lighting
Utility and building controls
Special operations

Come visit us at Cancel The Engine and bring your inner mongo.

I'll have to check in on that. A couple of my old HHI boys work in Charlotte now. Knowing them, it was probably one of them.

Today we had a fire...on our truck. We have a reserve tiller (used to be the old Atlanta Ladder 2) that is fillling in for Truck 6 actual. We're driving down the road and the radio is kicking on and off. Stopped at a station, got out and lo and behold, we had fire under the cab. Unfortunately, my firefighter training over-rode my common sense training and we put out the fire before it could have caused any significant damage. I should have at least let it burn so we could get a new tractor. I said later that if it reignited, treat the trailer as an exposure and cut it off there, let the front burn. Oh, well, had my chance...
LOL Mick hindsight is 20 /20 with binoculars... we never had a "truck fire": however we did have a Spare Mack pump that filled with smoke while sitting in the stationwith the batteries off........I'd be afraid they might give me a F150 with ladder racks claiming new tractors cost too much.....orusethis 1960 station wagon, just throw BA and your tools in theback....lol
As seen at the FDIC, New England Chiefs, NY chiefs as around .....
www.frictionforce.net/index.php

Forced entry Training device like no other.... check it out designed by a brother on my job and used by not only FD's but also PD swats and special services agencies nationwide
I checked it out online; looks pretty sweet but the 6k price tag makes it a "next year" thing. I'm going to call them to get a demo. Thanks for the tip.
Time to give this a bump and get it back to the top. If you all know anyone out there who should be part of the group and isn't, give drop them a line and put them in touch with our group. I'd love to get this bunch working on solving the world's problems but I think everyone's just getting used to checking everything out right now.
Bump again. Three years later.
Mick,

Shouldn't the acronym be such that it's more in the order of how things get done?
LEVR SO LUPS or would this be too confusing difficult hard for truckies?
See me at work next week. We're working on a purchase of a forcible entry prop and I'd like your input.
Like this?

I always preferred KISS.......
For me this is the first time I have seen the acronym LOVERS PLUS, but never needed an acronym to know the duties that needed to get done on the fire scene.

I don't know, but it seems like there are too many acronyms out there and many of them really aren't that important. Personally I would say the real acronym one should memorize is whatever their dept uses to call a MAYDAY, be it the PLAN or LUNAR acronym

With all the acronyms, I start to revert back to my service days.....CINCASNAVEUR, COMNAVSURFLANT, SNFL, etc
The reason why we jump on and off of the rig is to prevent electrocution injuries if the main aerial is elevated and either makes contact with power lines or is struck by lightning. By jumping clear of the rig, we do not become a part of the completed patch of electrical current, in theory.
