i'm 16 years old and although not an adult, i am regarded in my dept. as a full member of the team. im just not an interior firefighter.
i often get bumped off the truck for our interior firefighters, should they show up, (which i def. don't mind. i'd rather the situation gets under control professionally, then them be shortstaffed with me there)
but im wondering, what constitutes a jr from an explorer and a jr from a ff.
i've yet to take the ff1 course but theyre still taking me to scenes and asking me to do stuff (mostly gopher work) but what in your department would i be called?
is a jr a probie for you?

im a jr. at my department... i've been there for about 1 1/2 years. since i started i have always trained as hard as everyboy else. they awlays treat me like im a regular firefigter. everybody in my department makes it known that juniors are the future of the volunteer department.
ANDDDD only a kid or junior or explorer or whatever he wants to be called would bring back a threat from over a year ago.

Well, it is better than starting another similar thread, and a search was done......hopefully people read some previous comments before posting the same verbage again.
I'm a "Jr" right now. I'm regarded at the station either by the nickname they gave me or by Jr or Probie. I have yet to be booted off the truck just because I usually their when the Live-In Students are there. I came in to the dept. knowing nothing to, but the students took time out of what they were doing to teach me the different sizes of hoses on the trucks, different names for items on the truck and stuff. I usually end up running around grabbing thing or putting things back. I have also yet to take a FF1 course or EMT course but, my local high school has a class that I can do during HS hours that will give me FF 1 & 2 and a EMT-B certification but of course i have to pass.
To piggy back on that doesnt some regulating agency require a new hire to be 18? Because I know here you can't even be a volly until you are 18. To respond to the post I know all our departments probies have to be certified for interior attack.
