Thought this was an interesting article, to summarize it there will be a total lunar eclipse occurring tonight (December 20th) into "tomorrow" (December 21st).  According to the attached article, it is the 1st total lunar eclipse to occur on the winter solstice since 1638.  The eclipse will begin around 1:30am EST with the total eclipse stage beginning at 2:41am EST, and lasting until 3:53am EST, an entire 72 minutes.

thanks we have a clear sky in florida tonight...and its cold!!!!!
have a storm going on right now and expected to last throughout the night. Bummer.
I don't know now... it's been pouring rain and now, just maybe, the cloud cover has dissipated to where we might be able to see a white glow? or maybe if we are real lucky, a red one? It's currently 19:30 and the eclipse is not going to start for another three hours... to be continued...
Why do they always have those things at night when I'm asleep?
It was spectacular! We had a pretty clear sky and mild temperatures, so we enjoyed viewing the eclipse. Once in a lifetime...Sorry, Ben.
well we had clouds all night. so did anyone get any go photos?
Here's some pics from the Yule Lunar Eclipse of 2010.

The first is the Earth's shadow on the Moon's surface prior to Totality, the second is just before totality and the third is the Moon at totality of the eclipse.

Happy Yuletide to all!

Greenman

It was beautiful

I got some good video of it, I may post it on my youtube account later
Thanks Greenman - I have been looking for pictures. I missed the total lunar eclipse which I have been avidly waiting for for many months due the extreme storm clouds and torrentual downpour of rain.

These are EXCELLENT photos!
Looks like you did a bit of light speed travelling last night! LOL
