I have seen one that was built on a bus chassis used by a Canteen Operations unit in another county. It even had a camper bathroom and a treatment area.
Our county has one built on a small Chevy chassis for a motor home has a small bathroom unit on the side.
Box 414 named after the box that was pulled for the great baltimore fire service the baltimore city fire and police dept. They also run the fire museum.
My dad used to drive the "Coffee Wagon" for Box 414 back in the late 70's early 80's. Is it still stationed over by Oldtown Station...in the fire museum?? Used to be very happy to see them and their glazed donuts and watered down hot chocolate. Looking at the pics, things have really improved since those days.
Our department has a thing going with the local Red Cross chapter. They bring out their canteen truck staffed by their volunteers. They have the generic colas, water, Little Debbie snacks, etc. If it's cold they have a hot coffee-like substance and sometimes sausage biscuits. It's a welcome sight but being volunteers, it sometimes takes a little while. If it takes too long, or they're unavailable, sometimes a chief will go get something from a convenience store.
For those that don't have a dedicated rehab unit, see if there is a local restaurant or store that might be willing to donate and bring some stuff out on scene. If they can't bring it, see if you can free someone up to pick it up.
This truck can feed over 1,000 people at any fire or event. it is maned 24/7 it has 2 drink wells 1 for gator aid and 1 for water. It is also stocked wiht chicken cutlets, meetballs, hotdogs, hamburgers, coffee, hot cocoa and more. This rehab unit was donated by Able fire restoration for $250,000 it goes to all Fire scenes in a 50 mile zone of Providence RI. It also does S&R and some Police matters. Some of you from the area may see it often in your town. I think all Fire should have this type of truck on scene for rehab at a fire scene. It is a 501 c 3 ( non profit ) and is albe to function through Fire Fighters donations , along with local companys donations. This truck is a great asset to the fire fighters.
