RAVENSDALE, Wash. - Firefighters found a man's body at a house fire in east King County, near Ravensdale.
KIRO-TV reports the fire broke out about 10 p.m. Tuesday in the house, which is next door to a volunteer fire station. The station was unmanned, and when fire engines arrived the house was fully involved in flames.
After firefighters made their way inside they found the body of the man, who was alone in the house.
King County sheriff's Deputy Patrick McCurdy says investigators are trying to identify the man.
Sad! Sad that there was a fatality.
Sad that property was lost
Sad, that the reporter felt it necessary to point out the fact that the fire was " IN HOUSE NEXT TO FIREHOUSE"
Is it a big deal? (about the headlines / method - I mean) Nah, It's not a big deal (which is why I am writing about it lol) I know it's Just another attempt to draw readers to the story. I get that.
But I also believe that the readers would be compelled to read the story regardless of what was next to the house on fire.
Ask yourself (and answer honestly) when you first read the headlines, were you expecting to read something about - how the fire raged while the firefighters were just playing cards, or watching tv or sleeping, or whatever the firefighters do while "just waiting for a fire call" (which sadly is, what many taxpayers STILL think firefighters are doing when they are not at a fire) and expecting to read something condeming the fire dept?
I know I expected something that, thankfully was not there.. negative comments towards the fire fighting efforts of the dept. involved.
Had the house been located next to a lawyers office, or next to an abandon warehouse, or next to the local drug house.. would that have been printed? Would that have made the story more compelling to read? Just because it was next to a firehall, does that have to be a method to get people to read? The concerned citizen might naturally say, geeze how could that happen - it was right next to the fire dept. I am sure there was no bad intent there.. just the need to get people to read about a very tragic story.. NEXT TO THE FIREHOUSE
No, I am not turning into a grumpy old geezer lookin for something to gripe about, just trying to defend the fire service - even if it does not need defending here.
Seasons Greetings everyone.
Stay safe k
i have seen where there are instances where a house catch on fire next to a station but the fact is it was an all volunteer fire company so it was unmanned if it had been a paid staff on duty would it have made a difference we will never know was the gentleman deceased prior to the fire which may have led up to it no one know,s so just because u live next to a fire house does not alway,s mean your house can be saved it all depends on the structure and the age of the house
