IC in this case may just be "I C if I can make a fool of myself or set a BAD example for my department"
Vince,

Let's not get carried away. Everybody had on PPE. The chief didn't have a Pak, but if he had a clue and was doing his job, he wouldn't need one. Breaking the window was not a problem - wasn't necessary, either - but not a problem. Even the flying hose situation was quickly rectified. And nobody was gonna get killed.

Other than looking bad because of the nitwit chief, it was no big deal.
exactly.....
Mike,

It's perfectly acceptable - preferable, actually - to check the vehicle for occupants prior to deploying a line. (Which takes considerably more time than a quick check of the vehicle.) If no one is inside, step back and let the tip man (not the chief) put the fire out.

It's always nice to be protected by a hoseline, but not always feasible.
And, you would be correct. However, looking at the scene, the vehicle had been fully engulfed and for sometimes prior to the engines arrival. By the fire-darkened windows, I very much believe recovery was the order of the day should anyone had been inside. So, why risked a life when there was none to save!!! And, by that stupidity of NOT wearing SCBA, we''ll be complaining of work related cancer later down the line.
Vince,

Even though a rescue would have been highly unlikely, no one's life was being risked in checking the vehicle. (Let's make sure we're on the same page here: There's always some risk involved when one is near a burning anything, but in this case it was minimal.)
The chief or guy in white helmet didn't get close enough to the car to need a SCBA. from what I can tell in the Vid, he dropped the pipe cause the pressure was to high you can see the guy behind him motion to the engineer to drop the pressure. The Chief should of given the pipe to the guy in the SCBA so he could get closer and put the fire out.
As for the guy busting the window after he opend the door. Well he's probably a truck guy & we just like to break S**t.
As for him going up with no line, he didn't need one and since you can't see everything how do you know one wasn't behind him or coming from the other side.

Nobody got killed the fire got put out. Good job.
Agreed. It was just a car fire. Some people get worked up too easily.
