ATLANTA - A Georgia firefighter will appeal his dismissal for taking a cell phone video of a woman killed in a SUV crash that was later received by the late woman's parents.

Attorney M. Michael Kendall said firefighter Terrence Reid will seek to overturn a decision by Spalding County officials to fire him effective Nov. 7. Kendall said the punishment is too harsh.

Reid used his personal cell phone to film the body of 23-year-old Dayna Kempson-Schacht, who died July 17 when her Jeep crashed into trees.

Kendall said the firefighter shared the video with three or four other people, mostly fellow firefighters. The video spread until it was eventually forwarded to the late woman's parents by an acquaintance.

County officials said other people may face discipline over the incident.

Where's the petition to sign That is frickin crazy!!!! Too harsh my ass!!!!
You gotta be sh*tting me!
Those were my thoughts as well, Ralph.

Unfortunately in this case, this guy might have a chance.

Is Georgia an at-will state? That could make a big difference.
Let him have his due process. And in the end.... "You are the weakest link... good bye."
Too harsh????? OMG bring him to my county and I am sure we can show him what too harsh is.... What a jerk... Does he think that he could even be remotely trusted to go any calls?
If I did something blurry in the rule book and was fired, I would be a grown individual and accept the punishment.

How can your employer trust you and why in good green earth would you want to continue employment with a company that does not trust you????
Patti, remember this is the world of no personal responsibility and common sense.

Common sense would tell most of us to either not video it or for sure not spread it around. That's where the problem starts.

Next, I'm going to assume here--dangerous, I know--that this guy figures there wasn't a set policy against it, so he didn't violate anything other than a massive lack of common sense, courtesy and brains. So the next step is, his due process was violated and because he didn't violate a policy, he shouldn't be fired. Basically, it's not my responsibility that my employer didn't tell me not to do something like this.

Personally, I think firing him is too light of a punishment for doing something this stupid.
The world we live in now, one that I call "meism" just pisses me off. Where is the sense of responsiblity for ones own actions, where is the respect for other lives and situations?

Please do not get me started.... My husband has to listen to this when the news is on....
Sad thing is I know the numbnut doesn't care. It just ticks me off when people can't/won't/don't take responsibility for their own actions.

I know, I know.... I have to high of expectations
Patti take a breath that vein is starting to pop out on your forehead!
Just imagine the shitstorm that will erupt if he's reinstated and then responds to a call at the home of the parents of the victim he video recorded!
I know...I know... There are days when you just want to do a smack down on someone and this guy is it.

So how was your evening?
