I was wondering how many scan the area around a vehicle accident with a TIC at night. I do it everytime and never take bystanders or people involved in the accidents word that "No one else was in the vehicle". I was taught this in a vehicle ops class right after a fire department missed a victim and they were not found until the next day.

Also now I use the TIC on anhydrous ammonia tank "meth lab" wash downs at night. After one wash down for LEOs a few days later the word was sent to me that I was being watched and it was not appreciated that I helped destroy there "stuff". From what I understand they were in a ditch a few feet away. Now before I go to work on these a scan is done of the area.

Common practice here as well. Check the seats, then the surrounding area. Was also helpful in finding cattle that were missing in a transport rollover. Our TIC is used whenever possible.
that's a good point...but did you also realize that if you shoot wet spots it will tell you if it is fuel or flammable liquids as well...you can actually "see" the vapors coming off the ground with the camera....
I didn't know that paul I'm going to try that out.The T.I.C. is worth 10 times it's weight in gold we use it for land based water rescue to find people floating in the water also.
Great info Paul I did not know that.
Thank you
So many uses for our TICs. Like all things pertaining to our work we are always evolving and learning new uses and ways to do things. Good stuff.
You might want to use it in MVA's involving overland trucks...Many have fuel pre-heaters in the tanks due to the newer diesel fuels...so if they are hot they can be an ignition source...so why not shoot them as well...? Just a thought....May work for detection of gas leaks (Propane yes, Natural gas....maybe) if there is a temperature gradient change......
