After an earthquake, for my department and all southern California fire departments, all apparatus are removed from the station in case of additional earthquakes.

The key concern of course is structural failure...

With Mexico having another earthquake today, 6.9 magnitude... it seemed appropriate to start a discussion asking the simple question, what does your department do in the event of an earthquake?

Here's a concern should your department not have a plan...

If the fire department does not have an identified earthquake response plan, then chances are really good that there are no plans in place for other target hazards within the community such as public schools.

What have other departments done?  Check out LAFD's website that discusses earthquake prevention. Consider providing this type of information for you community.

Earthquake? We do not even have a plan, never had one here but it might be something to think about, thanks.
What's an earthquake? Ah, just kidding. We average one, ONE, every 7-10 years here in western PA, magnitude 5.0 and lower. Most people don't even realize we've had one.
Gregory, you're located in The Ring of Fire, you guys should have a plan.
Capt BZY, we obviously have a plan. If after the initial earthquake the station is still standing we will move them outside. Good comment bro. We have more concern with a Tsunami hitting us after a earthquake. We have a evacuation plan for that as well. We have had several small earthquakes here but nothing of consequence.
So much of the USA has the potential for earthquakes and of course, the after shocks. To not have a plan, that includes the basics of removing apparatus from the building is not a good thing... Hopefully, this post will create a little more awareness?
I see that, I will pass it up the food chain.
We definitely do not have an earthquake plan. We have had a few small quakes here in Chicagoland, but most people either slept through them or barely noticed them at all. It probably wouldn't hurt to get a plan in place, because you never know if and when the "big one" might come.
Makes sense to me, but we don't have that issue here in Northern NY...Now snow, that's another issue..we have been known to get over a foot at a time and sometimes more....
