Hey Everyone,

I'm pretty new to EMS and this website but I have a quick question. I am interested in putting some POV lights on my 2008 Nissan Sentra. I live and work in New York State, but I'm not sure what the legality issues are.

Are volunteers supposed to use Blue or Green lights? Can you have a siren? I think I'm going to get the Galls Volunteer starter package which include a siren, controller, and Mini Max LED light bar.

Any input would be great.

get with your director he can tell you the state law for volunteers
He asked for information in NOV. 2008. (original post) Do you honestly think he is still waiting to hear from people, before making any decisions on which color or what to buy yet? I suspect not. But thanks for reviving this very important topic once again. Now I am sure the rest of the readers who did not get to offer their thoughts on this, will do so now. Just like I did! lol I think its extremely important to keep this thread alive and active. C'mon everyone jump on the bandwagon. lets discuss POV and lights and sirens and explorers, an an an an ... well lets just do it all one more time!!!
Brian,

People don't even bother to read the previous reply(ies) so why should they look at the date? Clearly details, data and information are much less important than a good chance to bark. (sudden cold chill...I wonder if HWCCBN is about in the stygian cyber-darkness?)
Haha, I totally forgot I posted this until I started getting the emails for it, two years later!
Yah I know Jack. Its just one of my flaws . I kinda like to make sure I am not going to sound like a goofball by commenting on something that was posted a decade ago. I am weird that way though. lol But I have noticed lately, there are others that are just plain "not right" too!Like those who actually make sure their spelling, and grammar, and words are used half assed right. WTF has this site produced but a bunch on phonics... ated?? dweebs that would care about that non-sense? lol Phonics-ated??? damn that word should be in the next edition of the dictionary.
Shmorale. It is the preferred color of the 4th moon planet's fire engines. Kind of a blue color here on earth.

:p
EMS in New York State use Green lights...they have to be visable 360 degrees and there are other restrictions under the vehicle and traffic laws. They give you NO special rights, no you cannot speed, you cannot avoid traffic controls, you cannot disregard traffic controls. They are Courtesy lights only....you are asking the other motorists for consideration in that you are responding to someone in need. You also have to have in your possession a "Green Light" card signed by your current Chief stating you are authorized by him to have the light. A little hint...take it off before you go into Canada...they have Laws for even having a colored light exposed on a vehicle and they aren't always forgiving of the southern neighbors. If you run EMS but you are under the Authority of a Fire Department pretty much same scenario except light color is BLUE......you can check V&T laws online, just google it.....Paul PS....Sirens are a big No-No.....Try LED OUTFITTERS or Strobesnmore...better prices
May I suggest you slow down....Get some training, get your feet wet first before you go and turn your buggy into a full fledged hospital on wheels....whats the sense in getting there in a hurry if you don't have a clue what to do....Kind of like a dog chasing a car.....what the hell is he going to do if he catches it...sure as hell can't drive it. Oh shit...just read the date.....LOL
