New Vehicle for the Non-Emergency Response Market

Spartan Motors Chassis introduced a new non-emergency
ambulance transport (NEAT), a low-cost transport vehicle designed for
transporting patients who are not in critical condition.

Based on the Ford Transit Connect chassis and is supposed to meet KKK and FMVSS specifications. With 135 cu.ft of area, I'm not sure if it would be legal to operate as a patient transporter in some states like Texas.

Thanks for the link. It wasn't there when I started this thread.

I can see some very limited uses. It might be a good thing for special events with large crowds such as races, concerts or other sporting events, transporting to an Aid Station or perhaps as you stated maybe a doctor's appointment.

The patient compartment reminds me of the old style station wagons we used back in the 60's, except there is a little more head room. Again, I'm not sure it would be legal to operate in Texas with some of the screwed up rules we have here.

Maybe with a little fertilizer and water, it might grow. ;{

Although the Transit connect is small, it is still a street legal van, and takes up about as much room as a sedan, so it wouldn't be very good in crowds. The Foster STAR Mini Ambulance is much better suited to that type of transport ( http://www.fosterrescue.com/products/emergencyproducts.htm ).

I think the NEAT is best suited for downtown city streets, and of limited transit time like a 10-minute drive between facilities or less.

I agree with Ralph, that I'd hate to be the driver when a pt decides to puke!
