Florida Woman Hospitalized Following Collision With Turkey

SARASOTA, Fla. -- A 42-year-old motorcyclist is recovering at her Arcadia home following a weekend collision with a wild turkey on State Road 72.

According to WFLA-TV/Channel 8 in Tampa, the turkey flew into the face of Lori Hansen, who then crashed into a barbed wire fence Saturday.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Hansen wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. She was taken to a local hospital, but has since been released.

Troopers said the wild bird was found dead at the scene of the collision.

Ouch! Would you like a little barbed wire on that turkey sandwich?
Some days you're the bug, some days you're the windshield.
You're crackin' me up, Jack! I hate to laugh when someone's hurt, but that's one for the record book.
That's fowl'd up.
I'm glad she is OK. A helmet would provide protection, is there no helmet law in Florida? My boyfriend had a sea gull fly into his head while he was riding his motorcycle, he had a helmet on luckily. He said he felt like his neck was about to break.
I don't think there is a helmet law in Florida. I know there's not a helmet law here in Kentucky. But I know some turkey hunters who get up at 5am and hide in the woods just to kill turkey. She just used a different method but hey I guess whatever works.
now that's what I call "fast food".
